Rocket and Squash Weekly Digest #2

Rocket and Squash Weekly Digest

11 February 2013

Last week was dominated by the weather (wet and rubbish) and, in London, the tube strike (also rubbish and a little bit wet).

It's not surprising that mass action causes such disruption. But I do wonder what those who have been flooded in the South West think of city types, paralysed by the thought of a slightly longer than usual walk home. There's talk of more strikes this week - if you're prepared to take a pair of trainers and a waterproof to work, it's worth trying out the restaurants that are usually jam packed, rather than standing in line for a bus. Dinner at Blanchette last Tuesday was proof of this.

On the home front, I have found that cooking from the weekend papers for the #Supplemental feature leaves me with a number of ingredients unaccounted for. So I've now an additional challenge - make something interesting from the leftovers that Nigel, Yotam, Gizzi and co don't use up. This week, the happy result was a roasted cauliflower and anchovy carbonara.

All the best, Ed.

My take on the myriad recipes in the weekend supplements over 8 and 9 February.

Eating in

Leftovers from a Stevie Parle cauliflower recipe ended up as a roasted cauliflower, pine nut and anchovy carbonara. Result. Find the recipe here.

Eating out

Praise be for Bob Crow. Because it was easy to get a seat at Blanchette - a super bijou new spot in Soho.

Check out the March edition of Sainsbury's Magazine - there's a piece in there by me about a trip to Mumbai with cook and food writer Anjum Anand. Available now in all good, er, Sainsbury's.
