The Velocity year has well and truly started, which also means the Velocity Innovation Challenge is just around the corner.

The first students have already started completing their applications, but usually the majority of entries will be received just before the deadline on Monday 15th May. 

Your time and your skills are very important to us!  Velocity cannot run it's competitions without you volunteering your expertise and providing ongoing support for the programme.

Therefore we would like to invite you to register your interest in being involved as a judge/and or mentor for the Velocity Challenges in 2017. The $100k challenge entries were 40% higher last year.  We expect continued growth in entries this year and are therefore actively recruiting additional judges, so please feel free to pass this email on to anyone you think would be interested in getting involved.

2017 Velocity Programme

Innovation Challenge - May

The Innovation Challenge '1,000 words for $1,000' encourages students and staff to put their idea on paper in either the commercial or social entrepreneurship stream of the competition.
Each track offers x10 prizes of $1,000. In addition to the main $20,000 prize pool; there are faculty specific prizes, UniServices research prizes, and special prizes to be won. The total prize money available is $40,000.

The entrants also have the option of receiving valuable feedback from the judges via the judging feedback process regardless of whether they win a prize or not. This way they can learn, improve and develop their ideas and can go on to enter $100k Challenge in Semester 2. 

Innovation Challenge Deadline for entries is Monday 15 May, 12pm midday.

$100k Challenge - August till October

The $100k Challenge entries consist of a combination of new entries, as well as entries which have been entered into the Innovation Challenge and developed further. $100k reflects the value of the mentoring, workshops and one-on-one clinics that are on offer to teams which go into the qualifiers ‘Launch Pad’ process. 

$100k Challenge Stage 1 Deadline for entries is Monday 7 August, 12pm midday.

Mentoring of $100k Challenge Qualifying teams:
Each of the qualifiers from the $100k Challenge are allocated two mentors. Mentors are requested to meet with the teams from 21 August-16 October for 1-2 hrs per week to assist them in writing their business plans, developing their venture and preparing to pitch. 

$100k Challenge Grand Prize Giving is on Wednesday 18 October, 6.15pm.
