A record £7,200 raised for CHOX

The P2G team present the gigantic 2014 record cheque
A record breaking year... that was 2014!

This year saw us raise the most amount of money ever for charities in our 7-year history, with over £9,838 raised!!

The Children's Hospital at the John Radcliffe alone received a grand £8,950.29 alone from us from our activities in 2014 - which included our most successful kids football tournament to date in July which broke all records for any previous such event of £7,209 in total!

Activities held this year which has resulted in these amazing sums also included two book sales held at Sainsbury's in Didcot over two weekends in the spring, to wristband sales, and of course our most successful fundraising party held in Didcot last February.

The Paediatric Eye Fund at the JR have also benefited from this year's support (see below). We have also contributed £146.81 towards the work of Headway Oxfordshire - helping towards achieving the £200,000 appeal for the redevelopment of their Activitiy & Rehabilitation Centre (ARC) in  Kennington.

We are immensely proud and delighted to have celebrated our most successful and most record breaking year of funds ever for local charities. We would like to say a huge thank you to each and every person who has made these totals possible!

We have another busy year of fundraising lined up in 2015, and in which we hope we will raise many thousands, if not more, for our charities. Events coming up in early 2015 can be viewed below, or click the link above.

Giving an eye great amount

The Paediatric Eye Fund at the Oxford Eye Hospital of the JR received an eye great amount from us as well earlier this month.  Pictured above is Andrew and Dale presenting the grand 2014 amount raised for the PEF to Ross Downes, a founder volunteer of the charity and research coordinator for the Eye Research Group Oxford.
The PEF was set up by a team of staff, including Ross, at the eye hospital in early 2013.  The fund is all about raising funds for research, equipment and development for the treatment of children with debilitating eye diseases.
They have benefited hugely this year from funds and awareness that we have mustered up alone, with £1,101.71 raised just from our activities held this year.
We raised the funds through a fundraising party in February and book sales & collections at Sainsbury's Didcot earlier in the year. We are really proud to support this small but valuable cause and raising further awareness of their incredible work throughout 2015 and beyond!

Brotherly love for hospital

Oxford bros Stuart and Matt Crook, above, pounded the pavements back in  October to support the Oxford Children's Hospital inspired by Play2Give and by their children's own treatments.  Usually running for pleasure, this didn't deter them from taking on the gruelling half marathon around Oxford on October 12th and they raised near on £900 for the hospital superheroes which is so close to their hearts. Fab effort from these two hospital running heroes!  Both finished in just over 1hr 49m, although Matt just pipped his older bro Stuart over the finish line - not that they were having a competition much, ahem!
Would you like to follow in their footsteps and run to support Play2Give in the 2015 marathon (date tbc)?
Then please get in touch to register your interest to fundraise on our behalf!

Movember's the Way to Do It!

Many thanks to both Matthew Hambridge, above, and Lee Crook, below, for taking on 'Movember' in November and raising a fantastic £266 between them.
For the entire month they forewent shaving and grew special taches or in Lee's case, an 'Oleg meerkat' chin, to raise awareness as well as raising funds.  Lee is a nightshift worker at Sainsbury's in Didcot, whilst Matt from Witney helps volunteer with Play2Give.
Lee can be seen below after having dyed his mo in the last week after a certain amount of sponsorship was reached. He dyed his beard pink!
Thank You to...
Sainsbury's Didcot who continue their wonderful support in their year of fundraising & awareness for Play2Give as ther local fundraising partner of the year.  They have held Halloween face painting to staff's hauntingly good cake bake offs, to a raffle at their recent Christmas & 10th birthday party which raised £151.30, to bag packing weekends throughout December and have already raised an estimated £900 in their charity year for us. Remarkable!

And Hook & Eye in Witney who recently contributed £30 into our funds raised from sales of wristbands this year.  And Rob Bailey-Day who dyed his hair vivid red for the months of October & November just to awareness of P2G!

SH Creative for producing a brilliant promotional video made from filming this year's footy tourno back in July, and to Summertown Stars FC for donating an amazing £760 raised from all their club's activities throughout this year!

Although we didn't make it onto the shortlist this time round, we were just chuffed and a great appreciation by the judges to have been recognised in the wider local community for our work helping others less fortunate

About Play2Give

£32k raised in 7 years!
Play2Give (P2G for short) was set up voluntarily by Didcot's Andrew Baker who teamed up with friends to bring a football tournament for charity to life. Since its inception, and now as a fundraising organisation, P2G has proved to be hugely successful over the last 5 years alone, continually growing and raises money, many thousands, each year for local charities, primarily the Oxford Children's Hospital. The football tournaments have been hailed by past teams as being the 'best tournament for charity in Oxfordshire', which is a real testament to the hard work and effort that all the team put in each year organising these annual events. Since 2007 over £32,000 has now been raised and donated to these causes, with over £26,500 of this to the Children's Hospital.

P2G also supports Headway Oxfordshire and the Oxford Paediatric Eye Fund. Over the years we have also supported Bone Cancer Research, Footsteps, SpecialEffect and Heads Up amongst others.

Andrew is Top Young Entrepreneur of Oxfordshire

Back on November 5, our Andrew attended the grand final of the 2014 Haines Watts Thames Valley Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.  The awards final, held at The Forbury Hotel in Reading, was attended by the local winners from 4 regions - Oxfordshire (Andrew), Berkshire, Surrey and Hampshire. Andrew was announced in October as the Oxfordshire winner after beating off stiff competition.
Andrew was selected for setting up 'Play2Give' in 2007.  Andrew got to mingle with the other budding and inspirational business boffins and after each finalist pitched their businesses, or as in Andrew's case, fundraising organisation, to the 'Dragon's  Den' styled panel. Over lunch the judges made their final deliberations - no mean feat!
The overall winner was David Adams from Farnborough for creating his own Timber business.
Speaking about Andrew's selection, Simon Garrett from the HW Oxford office and one of the judges, said: "Awards such as that of the Haines Watts Young Entrepreneur of the Year are much-deserved recognition for all the hard work that Andrew and his team tirelessly and enthusiastically put in. Andrew is a real powerhouse in getting things done - his energy is amazing. Play2Give has a great social media presence too. Well done again!"

Sports Awards Row Oar-some Funds in

Sporting superstars, VIPs and guests came together to celebrate the best of the sporting talent in Oxfordshire and donated to P2G at the same time. The 9th Oxfordshire Sports Awards were held at the Kassam Stadium, home of Oxford United, on November 28th. Andrew and Dale was pleased to attend he star-studded glitzy evening representing P2G of which the night raised an amazing £551.10 - a record amount raised for any charity ever!  Money was raised through a raffle and collections round the tables during half-time interval, and it was definitely proven that catching people after some glasses of wine definitely helps!
Thank you to everyone at the Sports Awards who gave so generously and to all the companies who gave fantastic raffle prizes and to Zoe O'Neill at the Oxfordshire Sports Partnership who worked incredibly hard to organise an amazing evening.
We would like to say congratulations to our very own supporter & friend, of Andrew Baker, Ben Watson from Didcot who was a runner-up in the 'Sportsman of the Year' category for his incredible achievements in his sport of weightlifting.
Ben represented Great Britain in the Commonwealth Games in June.

PEF are award-nominated charity stars

We are delighted for our friends at the Paediatric Eye Fund who are award-nominated stars!  They have been shortlisted in the Oxfordshire Charity & Volunteer Awards 2015. The team get to attend the awards ceremony at Oxford Town Hall on February 4th.  They are finalists in the 'Innovation' category when the winners of all categories will be announced.  This is a great testament to the great work that the team - all volunteers - put into fundraising & awareness.   We wish them all the best of luck for their big moment in February, we hope you win big - but if not its just a great knod to have been shortlisted in the first place! Give them a like on their Facebook page.
