Sainsbury's Tremendous  Three-Thousand!

Veronica Dallas. PR Ambassador, Sainsbury's Didcot presents Andrew Baker with the proceeds raised to date... with more to come!
Super sum raised  by Didcot store in 8 months!

The supermarket giant have been incredible supporters of Play2Give of late, with their year of support for Play2Give since last July being a resounding success.

Since being chosen as the store's 'charity partner of the year' last summer, a range of activities and events have been held, and this has included the February Sainsbury's Sponsored Stroll which raised around an incredible £940.

To date, the store has raised an amazing £3,000.00 and this was presented at the store's recent 'Colleague of the Year' awards evening at the end of March, where Andrew was presented with the huge cheque by Veronica Dallas, PR Ambassador.

However, the funds don't stop there and this total will rise over the coming weeks with a bag packing Saturday due in early May to other endeavours before the year ends in June.

Recent fundraising has included joint Red Nose Day face painting, a flower wrapping service for both Valentine's and Mother's Day which was successes, to the store winning a £500 donation from the company's head office which Play2Give was the natural choice to donate the winnings to - thank you!

This is an amazing amount so far and we thank all the wonderful colleagues and customers of the store who have either fundraised, been involved or donated in some way to the store's endeavours, or just through the tins at the tills, to achieve this incredible total so far!

We look forward to hearing the grand overall total in due course.

Fireworks make fundraising party a cracking corker

February saw our fifth fundraising party take place with a spectacular fireworks display adding to the proceedings, making for an extra special evening.

The party, held on February 21st at Didcot Football Club, was the best yet - literally - with Didcot's skies lit up bright with the most amazing display, the best that the town has ever seen for sure!
This spectacular display, which added magical sparkle to what was a great night, was provided and donated by
Illusion Fireworks - and we thank them hugely for their wonderful support in this way, and for all the hard work that went into preparing for many hours beforehand to get the display set up and perfect, so huge thank you to Karl Mitchell-Shead and all the team for doing a fantastic job!

Another highlight of the night was the 'chilli-eating contest', which saw 5 brave chaps - including four from Sainsbury's - take the heat quite literally and all managing to accomplish the mission with the sick bucket on standby, thankfully it wasn't needed! Between all 5 of them, the chilli warriors alone raised £162 making up the party's grand total, and with a close contest, the victorious winner was young 19-year old Phil Webber from Sainsbury's. Well done Phil, and an equal well done all round to all 5 guys for being so brave - rather you than us!

The disco, provided by
Utopia Disco, was brilliant and kept everyone boogie-ing on down all night long, well more Sainsbury's than anyone, but entertained everyone and we would like to thank the store for providing the buffet food and to our sponsors for the second year running, Johnsons Cars Oxford, for generously funding the entire event so we could raise a fantastic £572.40 shared between Headway Oxfordshire and the John Radcliffe Paediatric Eye Fund. Both charities benefit £286.20 each!

About Play2Give

£33k raised in 7 years!
Play2Give (P2G for short) was set up by Didcot's Andrew Baker in 2007 who teamed up with a small select team of friends to bring a football tournament for charity to life. Since its inception, and now as a voluntary-run fundraising organisation, P2G has proved to be hugely successful and, in particular, over the last 6 years especially, in continually growing and raising more money than ever. Many thousands are raised each year for local selected charities, primarily the Oxford Children's Hospital. The football tournaments have been hailed by past teams as being the 'best tournament for charity in Oxfordshire', which is a real testament to the hard work and effort that all the team put in each year organising these annual events.
Since 2007 over £33,150 has been raised and donated to these causes to date, with over £26.7k of this to the Children's Hospital

As of late 2014, we are thrilled to be given the opportunity to sponsor a room in our name within the teenage ward at the hospital.  At a target of £40,000 to achieve this ambitious target, we are already over halfway.  A plaque will then be included on the door in Play2Give's honour.  Please help us achieve this goal, as we continue to raise funds for the very latest medical equipment and facilities for the tens of thousands of children the hospital treat.

P2G also supports Headway Oxfordshire and the Oxford Paediatric Eye Fund. Over the years we have also supported Bone Cancer Research (in memory of Alex Lewis from Wallingford), Footsteps, SpecialEffect and Heads Up amongst others.

First ever Sainsbury's Sponsored Stroll is a walkaway success!
The very first Sainsbury's Sponsored Stroll Supporting Play2Give was a suoper success on February 1st surpassing all expectations - and raising over £950!
The six-miler walk took in a beautiful scenic route through South Oxfordshire countryside as a convoy of supermarket workers and other supporters in the Didcot community came together on a freezing cold Sunday to walk six superhero miles, aided by the greatest web-slinging hero of them all, 'Spiderman' or otherwise known behind the mask as Andrew Baker, in raising a superhero sum - and the stroll was so successful it is hoped to make it an annual fundraiser!
The walk smashed the £500 target the store set out to raise and looks to have raised over £950 - helping the store to over £3,000 already raised in their charity year for Play2Give.

PT Sam Gets Hairy in Festive Month

Huge thank you and well done to Sam Vaughan, a Personal Trainer at The Park Club, Milton Park, for taking on 'Decembeard' last December and raising a great £35 in sponsorship for growing the most bushiest and itchiest beard by foregoing shaving for an entire month!
Well done Sam, and the other PT's should be inspired by your lead for this coming 'Decembeard' 2016!
More Roll of Honours Thank-Yous
Oxfordshire Sports Awards 2014, (organised by Oxfordshire Sports Partnership), guests for raising an incredible £551.10 at the awards evening through a raffle and table collection.

Sainsbury's Didcot for supporting the 'Recycle 4 Play2Give' scheme. Such an easy way to support us through recycling used inkjet cartridges and mobile phones - and at no cost at all!

They have several events planned this year to raise funds including a race night at the Marlborough Club in Didcot in October  and an overnight sponsored walk with bivvy along the Ridgeway later in the year to more in the planning stages.
