Footballing fun 2014 breaks all records

This year's football fun day was a knockout success - smashing all previous records for any tournament in history.

Over £6,000 estimated to be raised for CHOX

Smiles sums up this year's record breaking event - which saw 18 boys teams take on the football pitch at Oxford City Football Club for another superb day of footballing and fundraiisng fun.  The event, as always sponsored by the magnificent Breckon & Breckon and Newbury Building Society, saw the most number of kids teams contest the all-day tournament, which saw Hinksey Park taking home the Unders 9s cup, whilst Oxford City Blues emerged the victorious Under 10s, in a closely fought final against Oxford City Nomads, with the Nomads sadly beaten pipped to the winners title in a lively penalty shoot out.

This year's event, the sixth tournament held, was the most successful yet - and the final funds raised for the Oxford Children's Hospital looks set to reach a possible £6,500!  We are hugely chuffed and we would like to thank each and every team, every supporter, our two amazing sponsors, Elmer Cotton, SH Creative, Jack FM, Oxford United and Oxford City for all helping to make 2013's day the best and most record-breaking yet! A beary special visitor Barry Bear even dropped by and went down a storm with the children and grown-ups alike bringing extra fun with a Mucky Dip game and lots of cuddles - although we think our Andrew Baker was probably the most excited about meeting the furry mascot of Newbury Building Society. We now look forward to handing over the proceeds to the hospital later in the year.

Sainsbury's producing finest year of fundraising

We are chuffed to be chosen as Sainsbury's Didcot's charity partner for 2014/15.

Back in July we pitched to the store's 'Great Place to Work' panel and, after being up against tough competition of two local charities, we were thrilled to get the phone call telling us we had won the vote - which adds to what has been an incredible year for P2G To be chosen, particularly as we function as a fundraising group, is just amazing and we are now, with the store, planning an exciting year of fundraising endeavours to raise funds for the charites the partnership will benefit.

These nice tins are sitting pretty on all tills in                    Sainsbury's. Next time your shopping why                                    not spare some change?

Sainsbury's Kicks Off with a Super Match of the Day!!

Sainsbury's Stars to take on Play2Give's Allstars in a fun friendly match on Sept 14th

The match, organised in association with the Didcot supermarket, is the store's first fundraiser in their fundraising year for P2G, and takes place at the Loop Meadow stadium, home of Didcot Town Football Club

The match will KO at 5pm, with gates opening to spectators and spectators at 4.30pm.  This fun football match will be contested by a team of Play2Give's friends and supporters, whilst taking on a team of staff from the store - who will emerge victorious? Come along and support this true match of the day which be followed by post match drinks and nibbles in the clubhouse.  As with all of the funds Sainsbury's Didcot raises over the next year, by supporting P2G, all funds will benefit our three tremendous charities:- Oxford Children's Hospital, Headway Oxfordshire and the Oxford Paediatric Eye Fund. Other fundraisers such as sponsored walks, Christmas gift wrapping, in-store competitions and even staff head shaves are also in the staff's pipeline of forthcoming cash collecting!

Charity in Focus: Headway Oxfordshire

Supports people affected by acquired brain injury

Headway Oxfordshire was founded in April 1988, and last year celebrated 25 glorious years of providing an invaluable service across the county - but needs help to complete its biggest project to date: The redevelopment of its Activity & Rehabilitation Centre.
Headway Oxfordshire provides invaluable advice, information and practical support to anyone (the individual & family members) affected by brain injury. Support is provided for the individual - and family members - either within the Activity and Rehabilitation Centre (ARC) at Kennington, or the county-wide Outreach Community Support team. HWO is now the only charity in the county to provide this level of practical support for traumatic brain injury, stroke and other neurological conditions.
Although affiliated to the national charity - Headway UK - HWO is an independent charity, relying entirely on fundraising. Events such as those organised and supported by Play2Give are very important and our very own Andrew Baker benefits from their service knowing first-hand what incredible work they do - they have helped Andrew come a long way since 2012 in his rehabilitation he receives.
We are focusing on the work of HWO in this edition, as they are in desperate need of funds. In particular, they need £200,000 to redevelop and update the ARC as HWO continues to grow and support more and more adults with these injuries.
The money that YOU help  Play2Give raise will go towards the current focus of helping HWO achieve its £200k capital appeal and events such as the football match, the support of Sainsbury's and other events P2G do in support of HWO is incredibly important to ensure HWO can continue to run and main its excellent support to those adults living with the impact of brain injuries.

About Play2Give

£25k raised for local causes in 7 years!

Play2Give (or P2G for short) was set up voluntarily in 2007 by Didcot's Andrew Baker who teamed up with friends to bring a football tournament to life in Oxfordshire. Since its inception, and now as a fundraising organisation, P2G has proved to be hugely successful and raises money each year for local charities, principally the Oxford Children's HospitalIt has just grown and grown and has become well renowned across Oxfordshire.

football tournaments have been hailed by past teams as being the 'best tournament for charity in Oxfordshire', which is a real testament to the hard work and effort that Andrew, Dale, Teresa, Elaine and all the team put in each year organising these annual events. Since 2007 around £25,000 has now been raised and donated to these causes, with over £19,000 of this to the Children's Hospital

Play2Give also supports Headway Oxfordshire and the Oxford Paediatric Eye Fund. We have also donated to Bone Cancer Research, FootstepsSpecialEffectHeads Up and the Have a Heart Oxfordshire appeal over the years.

Andrew Baker began fundraising to repay the Oxford medics who saved his life following major brain surgery aged 12 in 2001 by inspiring 'fundraising' at
St Birinus School where he was then a pupil aged just 14 in 2003, Since then has inspired, motivated and lead a wide range of school friends from St Birinus to Didcot Girls to the Sixth Formers, to family, friends and Play2Give event supporters, to support his fundraising crusade and has gone on to raise near £40,000 for local charities!

Over £34,200 of this for the
Oxford Children's Hospital!! Andrew had been treated since birth for a multitude of health problems after at which upon birth he suffered a brain injury, and then a playground accident aged 8 causing a second head injury. Play2Give is on course in 2014 for a record-breaking year in terms of the funds raised.
