Play2Give Wins Best Fundraising Gong

We win our first ever award for innovative fundraising

We only went and did it on November 13th - yes we won our first ever gong scooping the Best Fundraising Award at this year's BACAs, the Oscars of Didcot!

The original trio, Andrew, Dale and Teresa represented Play2Give at the 7th prestigious Didcot Business & Community Awards and what a lucky Friday 13th it was for us as we took home the trophy for an innovative year of fundraising and campaigns - and it was an extra special icing on the cake for us as we celebrate achieving our most successful year to date with a record breaking £13,532.05 raised - the most in our 8-year history!

36 businesses, charities and community groups were short-listed in this year's BACAs. Play2Give was up against the Felix Fund bomb disposal charity and Abingdon Young Farmers in our category and we are delighted albeit suprised on the night to be declared winners!

Local dignitaries including MP Ed Vaizey and the Mayor of Didcot was in attendance and Didcot Phoenix Taekwondo group, Didcot Sings and Wantage Silver Band all entertained the 220-plus sell-out audience during the glittering 'Oscars' style event, held at the Cornerstone Arts Centre in the town.

Emma East, Awards organiser, said: "We are delighted the Judges chose Play2Give to receive a BACAs award, which recognises them for their hard work and dedication to the local community."

The evening was a fantastic celebration of the very best in charitable heroes and excellent enterprises locally and we are absolutely chuffed to win this special award. We now look forward to our 2016 year, in which we hope for another successful fundraising year.

A very huge thank you to all of our wonderful supporters, sponsors and each and every person/company who organises and takes part in events to help us conquer our fundraising goals for our charities - we truly couldn't do it without you, and this award is owed to all of you!

Well done to Felix Fund and Abingdon Young Farmers for your fantastic fundraising work and to all the 12 award winners this year - including Didcot Girls' School's 'mental health awareness' campaign and Performing Angels & Stars Stage School.

Save Our Headway: We'll Fight The Cuts

We are supporting a petition set up by our Andrew Baker to save our local Headway.  'Save Our Headway: Brain Injured Will Battle Against the Cuts' has been created by Andrew online in a bid to halt county council plans to scrap funding for this essential and vital service (Headway Oxfordshire) that will affect 450 brain injured and their families this wonderful charity in Kennington, Oxford supports.
Headway (HWO) is one of many charities and social care services that faces crippling cuts in the Oxfordshire County Council's plan to slash £50m on top of a further £292m in its reduction in spending from central government by 2018.
Despite a recent £450,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund this major grant is not enough against its daily running costs due to the 'catastrophic' cuts planned by the OCC - of which 70% of Headway's current funding comes from. From June 2016 Headway's funding will be severely reduced and at worse will result in 'folding', 'staff redundancies' and limited offer in services and activities it provides.
Headway Oxfordshire as a charity relies on £250,000-£300,000 per year to keep going. The recent £450k grant will be used by the charity on its new ABI (Acut Brain Injury) satellite service - hubs in Didcot, Buicester, Witney and central Oxford - allowing community support workers to reach out to people with ABI, who struggle to get transport to the ARC in Kennington.
We fully support this campaign of Andrew's as P2G supports HWO as one of its main charities. To add your support, click here or click the HWO logo above

About Play2Give

£45k raised in 8 years!
Play2Give (P2G for short) was set up by Didcot's Andrew Baker in 2007 who teamed up with a small select group of friends to bring a football tournament for charity to life. Since its inception, and now as a voluntary-run fundraising organisation, P2G has proved to be hugely successful and, in particular, over the last 6 years especially, in continually growing and raising more money than ever. Many thousands are raised each year for local selected charities: the Oxford Children's Hospital & Paediatric Eye Fund and Headway Oxfordshire. The football tournaments have been hailed by past teams as being the 'best tournament for charity in Oxfordshire', which is a real testament to the hard work and effort that all the team put in each year organising these annual events.
Since 2007 over £45,900 has been raised and donated to these causes to date, with over £37.2k of this to the Children's Hospital

As of late 2014, we are thrilled to be given the opportunity to sponsor a room in our name within the teenage ward at the hospital.  At a target of £40,000 to achieve this ambitious target, we are only just £2,721 away from this target.  A plaque will then be included on the door in Play2Give's honour.  Please help us achieve this goal, as we continue to raise funds for the very latest medical equipment and facilities for the tens of thousands of children the hospital treat.

P2G also supports Headway Oxfordshire and the Oxford Paediatric Eye Fund. Over the years we have also supported Bone Cancer Research (in memory of Alex Lewis from Wallingford), Footsteps, SpecialEffect and Heads Up amongst others.
