Sainsbury's Didcot donates a record figure
Living well for less... That's definitely the ethos of Sainsbury's Didcot lived up to as they raised a record breaking amount of funds over the course of a year for Play2Give.
The money, raised as part of the store's 'local charity of the year' scheme, saw an amazing £4,300.64 achieved by the store's colleagues and customers over the course of 12 months from July, 2014. The achievement was celebrated as representatives from the store who was just some that played their part visited the Oxford Children's Hospital last month to present their enormous cheque for the year to our Andrew, as filmed by That's Oxford TV.
Deputy manager Alex Falconer, Charity Champion Veronica Dallas and team leaders Luke Norris and Andrea Smith are seen pictured presenting Andrew with their record total - which culminated in a wide variety of events and activities held, both in store and in the wider community such as a sponsored stroll in February which raised over £940!
The store chose to support P2G last summer and set out on a huge fundraising conquest to raise as much as they could, with activities in-store ranging from collection pots, to ghoulish Halloween bake sales, to face painting days, raffles at staff parties, bag packing, to a football match which the staff team lost 20-1 to Play2Givers and 3 of the counters chaps - led by Luke Norris himself - having their heads shaved bald on a chilly Saturday April afternoon to a sponsored stroll - all to achieve this astounding sum which has gone down in the store's record books.
Veronica, talking to the Oxford Mail, said: "It has been a great year and a real joint effort. We chose Play2Give because Andrew was just so passionate, he often came in to do bag packing to raise money and took part in the walks. It's a real fairytale for him as he recently got a job with us and he has raised so much money it's a great achievement."
A HUGE BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE AT SAINSBURY'S DIDCOT - AND GOOD LUCK IN YOUR NEW CHARITY OF THE YEAR CAMPAIGN!

Football tournament another goal-scoring success
|
|
Our annual kids football tournament was another goal-scoring success, with over £5,000 already raised - and there's still more to come! Our annual tournament in support of the Children's Hospital saw 19 boys teams compete on the 3G pitches at Oxford City Football Club in July. The day even saw a lifesize furry mascot by the name of Barry Bear join in the fun and 3 teams from Enfield in London travelled down to take part - they alone raised the most money out of all the teams with over £1,500!! Our raffle was yet another big draw with over £800 raised and yet agian over 30 prizes donated. The tournaments over the past 7 years have raised over £33,000 alone for local charities and this year we were grateful to be sponsored yet again by the wonderful Breckon & Breckon and Newbury Building Society. The victorious winners were Under 10s - Botley Boys and Under 11s - Didcot Youth which was even more bittersweet for the Didcot team as they have never won any other tournament so to win this contest, let alone as a special one for charity, was extra special!
