WTTW Chicago Tonight, RTA Connections blog feature COVID ridership survey
In case you missed it, WTTW's Paris Schutz interviewed me on the April 19 edition of Chicago Tonight following publication of the RTA COVID ridership survey, which offers crucial insights from current and "lapsed" riders alike. Today in our Connections blog, I've summarized the survey results and their relevance as we embark on Step 3 of the COVID recovery, which will focus on development of a new strategic regional transit plan.
Another blog post dives into some of the survey data, including this chart that shows transit's importance for CTA, Metra, and Pace riders who are experiencing lower incomes. These survey results confirm RTA analysis of Critical Need Areas during Step 2 of the COVID recovery strategy, which has been essential for sustaining essential transit services during the pandemic and transparently allocating federal relief dollars.
For emerging details of COVID recovery Step 3, tune in to the next RTA Board meeting on YouTube at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 20.
COVID Transit Dashboard
The RTA COVID Transit Dashboard has been updated, showing that RTA sales tax revenues for January 2021 were 1.5 percent higher than January 2020. The dashboard uses raw data that is always available for download at RTAMS, the Regional Transportation Authority Mapping and Statistics site (www.rtams.org).
