Fall 2021 NYSUFC Quick Start Grants & Tree City USA Reward Grants Application Period Open

From President
Karen Emmerich

Hello friends,
There's a lot going with the Council and our DEC partners! NY ReLeaf will be virtual this year, on July 23. The Council has opened up an application period for our Quick Start grants and Tree City USA Reward grants. We continue to post on the Council blog about the spring 2021 Arbor Day celebrations funded by past grants in communities like Brooklyn, Brookhaven, Gardiner, and Geneseo. Smart management of the urban forest continues to be an important climate change mitigation strategy. Many things to invest in and celebrate.

Onward and upward,
Karen

Request for Info from Council Early Days Folks

Nancy Wolf is working on Part 2 of her seminal "How it Happened: New York ReLeaf—A Brief History of Urban Forestry in the United States and the Creation of the New York State Program." She says, "I am looking for any recollections or information about the very early days of the Council, when basically the only activity was three state conferences—1992/93/94." Please contact her at Jlnwolfinc@aol.com if you can help.

Scholarship Opportunities

Council Scholarships Committee Chair Andy Hillman says, "The Council has a scholarship available for the Municipal Forestry Institute (MFI) and there are diversity scholarships for MFI through a partnership of USFS, Southern University, and SMA. Anyone interested can contact me: andrewhillman5@icloud.com."
