Upcoming events from the Cornish Culture Association.

Winter is only a few weeks away and our Cornish Culture Association events are just around the corner..

Allantide is the Cornish equivalent of Halloween and has it's own set of unique customs and traditions.  Since last year the CCA has run a "Mix a little Allantide with your Halloween" campaign. If you would like to know more about this campaign please click on this link.  Allantide campaign.  The Cornish Culture Association's own Allantide celebration will be held on the 31st of October at 8pm at Penzance Cricket Club. If you would like to attend please RSVP using facebook by clicking here.
Redruth Wassail is a new event for us this year. Working in partnership with Redruth Town council we plan to bring the ancient custom of "Warzailing" back to Redruth for the first time in generations. The Cornish Wassail bowl custom is not the kind of Wassailing you get in Southern England, where the apple trees are doused in cider and people symbolically drive out the Devil to ensure a good crop. It is in fact a "visit" custom where people go door to door offering the Wassail bowl to residents. The Wassail begins at 6.30pm on November the 28th outside Murdoch house in Redruth.  For more information about Redruth Wassail and to RSVP please click here.
Montol our largest event is set to return in 2015 as usual falling on the 21st of December.  This year its sets to be even more exciting that last with an additional procession at 4pm to show off the elaborate costumes that the Guise guilds have created. We have also have a visiting Mari Llywd from Wales who will join us in the processions.  If you would like to know more please visit our Montol website by clicking here.

Statement about the Golowan festival.  At a recent meeting of the trustees of the association the future management of the Golowan festival was discussed. The trustees support the ongoing campaign to ensure that Golowan is kept as within the community and not put out to commercial tender.  We also encourage people to attend the Public Meeting to be held on the 30th of October in the Ritz, Penzance. If you support this position please sign this petition by clicking here.
