A host of learning and training opportunities will be open to the recipients of the 2017 Women's Leadership Training Grant. 

Sponsored by the SVS Leadership Development & Diversity Committee, the grant program is designed to develop strong women leaders in vascular surgery who will demonstrate the outstanding accomplishments and personal qualities of surgeons recognized by SVS for lifetime achievements.

Selection Criteria

Three awards are given annually to women at various levels of experience: 
  • One $5,000 award to a woman 0 – 5 years out of training 
  • One $5,000 award to a woman 6 – 10 years out of training 
  • One $5,000 award to a woman more than 10 years out of training 
Applications that clearly describe how the grant will advance the leadership goals of the candidate and that include a clear action plan are given preference. 

Applicants must have completed training and be a current SVS Active or Candidate Member.
 

Application Requirements

  1. Complete demographic information such SVS member status, years out of training, professional appointment title, etc. 
  2. Summarize your past or current involvement in the 4 following areas: (1) Committee Appointments in Professional Societies; (2) Leadership Accomplishments; (3) Mentorship Involvement; (4) Community Service.
  3. Provide a statement of intent (maximum 900 words) that indicates how you would use the award to advance personal leadership training and specific career goals.
  4. Submit a curriculum vitae.
  5. Submit two letters of recommendation. One letter must be from the chief of division, chief of the department, or chief of staff. One letter from a SVS member (excluding those in training).
  6. Provide institution representative information for where award funds will be sent (if applicable). Please note if grant funds are sent directly to the grant recipient it is considered taxable income and will result in the issue of a 1099.

Application Deadline

  • Applications and related materials must be submitted online - deadline is March 1
  • In order to be considered for the grant all applications must be complete
  • All applicants will be notified by early April regarding their application status

Recipient’s Report to Committee

Within twelve months of completing the Women's Leadership Training Grant program, the recipient will prepare and forward a report to the SVS Leadership Development and Diversity Committee. The report should be one to two double-spaced typewritten pages and should summarize activities during the leadership training period. Although factual statements of activities should be included, recipients are encouraged to place these within an overall context of the impact on professional and personal development.

Any publication of the leadership training activities should acknowledge W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. and the SVS Leadership Development and Diversity Committee.
