It's Nearly Last Call! VAM Abstracts due Feb. 1


Abstract submissions  for the 2016 Vascular Annual Meeting will be accepted through 3 p.m. CST Feb. 1 -- and that's just 11 days away from Jan. 21, the date of this PULSE. 

New this year: All authors must submit a conflict of interest statement before an abstract can be submitted. Submitting authors will need to authorize the recording of content, in addition to supplying co-author institutional and contact information at the time of account creation.

VAM will be held from June 8 to 11; plenary and exhibits start June 9. The meeting will be at Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, National Harbor, Md., just outside Washington, D.C.

Registration and housing open March 3, 2016.

VRIC Abstract Deadline Extended to Jan. 25


The deadline to submit abstracts to the Vascular Research Initiatives Council has been extended to 11:59 p.m. CST Monday, Jan. 25. 
 
VRIC, to be held May 4 in Nashville, Tenn., emphasizes emerging vascular science. It is held the day before and at the same venue as the American Heart Association's Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology Scientific Sessions. Abstracts submitted to VRIC are simultaneously submitted to ATVB through a common submission system.

Be an SVS member! Applications due March 1


Do you have a colleague or friend who would be a valuable member of SVS? Encourage them to submit their application for Active, International, Associate or Affiliate membership. Candidate members interested in becoming Active members do need to apply. 

Applications are due annually by March 1 and are considered for approval at the Vascular Annual Meeting in June. Information about the application process and the various membership types can be found at the link below.

Apply by Jan. 29 for VAM Student Scholarships
 

Medical students and surgical residents can apply for travel scholarships to defray costs of attending the June 2016 Vascular Annual Meeting. Two scholarships are available: one for general surgery residents or medical students and one for a medical student who falls into a diversity demographic.The deadline is  11:59 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, CST.

Apply Now for E.J. Wylie Traveling Fellowship


The SVS Foundation is  accepting applications through March 2 for the E.J. Wylie Traveling Fellowship, which provides the recipient with the chance to visit a number of excellent vascular surgery centers worldwide. These visits stimulate academic inspiration, promote international exchange and foster development of fellowship in vascular surgery.

The $12,000 award is intended to defray travel, research and clerical assistance costs; it is not intended to support specific research interests but to assist the fellow in a unique opportunity for travel and professional exchange within established vascular centers.

Apply for Foundation Clinical Research Grant


Applications for Clinical Research Seed Grants are due by March 11.

The program seeks to:
  • Encourage the interest and development of clinical investigators among membership, particularly junior members or those with limited prior experience as principal investigators
  • Provide direct support for pilot clinical projects that have potential to develop into larger studies to be funded by industry or governmental sources.

Women's Leadership Training Grants Available


The SVS Leadership Development Committee annually awards Women’s Leadership Training Grants, with the aim of developing strong women leaders in vascular surgery.
 
Three, $5,000 awards are given annually to women at various levels of experience. Applications and related materials are due by 11:59 p.m. March 1.

SVU Sets RPVI Exam Review Course for March


The Society for Vascular Ultrasound will hold its two-day RPVI (Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation™) Exam Review Course March 18-19 in Baltimore. The review course provides the required vascular physics, interpretation skills and includes more than 100 test questions. Early-bird discounts end Feb. 18.

After completing the course participants should be able to:
  • Demonstrate advanced interpretation skills for several non-invasive tests, including abdominal, arterial, venous and cerebrovascular studies
  • Apply ultrasound physics concepts to the field of vascular diagnostics
  • Demonstrate understanding of how to apply effective practice guidelines.
The course has been approved for 15.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CME credits.™

ACS/SVS Scholarship Application due Feb. 1


Applications are due Feb. 1 for the $8,000 joint American College of Surgeons-Society for Vascular Surgery scholarship for the “Executive Leadership Program in Health Policy and Management,”  June 12-18 at Brandeis University in Massachusetts.

IVC Offers Practice Advice, Latest Information


The 14th annual International Vein Congress (IVC 2016) takes place April 28-30 in Miami Beach, Fla.  IVC’s educational mission combines the latest advances in science with a pragmatic approach to running a venous practice.
