#IBelieveYou Campaign Update

As the I Believe You Campaign runs through the month of September we want to continue to keep our community of partners informed through a weekly update on how #IBelieveYou is achieving awareness of the issues of sexual assault and sexual abuse in our Province.

Thunderclap Update

We have completed our Thunderclap goal of 497!!! To this date we have 115% of the goal supported, which will give a social reach of 485,658 individuals and organizations. Once again, the 97 is to give recognition to the 97% of sexual assaults that go unreported.

Even though we are over our goal, we are still looking for more pledges so that #IBelieveYou can reach far and wide! Simply go to www.Ibelieveyou.info > Click > “Join the Movement” and sign up today. Thunderclap will send the message to your friends and followers – however, Thunderclap will NOT interact with friends, store their information, or post on their behalf. The access to friends list is only used to gain permission to calculate the social reach.

Website Traffic

We have had over 2500 people view the videos posted on YouTube. In September, the number of hits that we have received on the AASAS landing page was 164,088 by Monday September 21, 2015. This is demonstrated in the diagram below.

Alberta Post-Secondary Campuses Update

The momentum of the I Believe You Campaign continues as each of the 23 post-secondary campuses host their #IBelieveYou booth days. This week, booths have been held at:

  • University of Alberta hosted a booth everyday by the University of Alberta Sexual Assault Center
  • Mount Royal University hosted a booth day by Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse
  • NAIT hosted a booth day by Sexual Assault Center of Edmonton
  • Alberta College of Art and Design hosted a booth day by Calgary Communities against Sexual Abuse.

There has been positive feedback from these booths and we will give you further updates on this over the next couple of weeks.

Social Media Update

#IBelieveYou is still going strong on Twitter. Every day, more and more people are tweeting about the campaign and showing their support for survivors of sexual assault to be believed. We have even started to see some backlash from local men’s movements about false accusation of men. However, the vast majority of responses towards #IBelieveYou have been strong, supportive, and positive messages that are used to influence a survivor’s life in an encouraging way.

Thank You and Keep It Up!

We would like to thank all of you for the support you have given to the #IBelieveYou campaign. Below are photos from the Alberta College of Art and Design’s booth day that were posted to social media. This school brought artistic ideas to their booth day with a mural that students could draw their own artwork of #IBelieveYou. They also had a chalk wall in which students could check off to demonstrate their support in believing survivors of sexual abuse. By the end of the day, both walls were plastered with high volumes of support!
