AASAS pilots Train the Trainer curriculum for First Responder to Sexual Assault and Abuse Training™

The Association of Alberta Sexual Assault Services hosted 15 new Facilitators in Training at a five day intensive Train the Facilitator Workshop in Edmonton this past October.  Workshop sessions included, among others: How to Facilitate First Responder Training, Co-Facilitation, Adult Learning and Influencing Attitudes.

Working with 4 Mentors, these Facilitators in Training are launching a community of practice that will expand the First Responder to Sexual Assault and Abuse Training™ throughout the province of Alberta.

First Responder to Sexual Assault and Abuse Training™

With support from the Government of Alberta and Status of Women Canada the Association of Alberta Sexual Assault Services (AASAS) developed First Responder to Sexual Assault and Abuse Training™. This training is intended to build the capacity of professionals, paraprofessionals and community members to assess and respond effectively to disclosures of sexual assault and sexual abuse. Survivors who receive safe and supportive responses to disclosures of sexual violence are more likely to reach out for help from medical and counselling services and/ or report to police. First Responder to Sexual Assault and Abuse Training™ is a comprehensive two day training, inclusive of the full continuum of sexual violence and across the lifespan.
