AASAS E-News Feature – Association of Communities Against Abuse serving children and families in the communities of Stettler and surrounding areas
The Association of Communities Against Abuse (ACAA) is located in Stettler Alberta, and provides free experienced services for children and adolescents aged 3 to 17 years old. ACAA provides school based preventative educational programs to day care and schools from grades kindergarten to grade 12 (all topics are age appropriate for the audience). These preventative educational programs teach school aged children the importance of consent and how to build/maintain healthy relationships with others. Counselling services are provided to children that have been sexually abused. There is no limit to the number of sessions they can attend, so children and adolescents have someone to walk alongside them on their healing journey for as long as they want someone to be there.
Some of the highlights of positive outcomes for the child and youth programs includes ACAA observing a reduction of trauma symptoms within the individuals that utilize services. There are also improvements in the area of social interaction, physical symptoms, emotional expression, and cognition. The well qualified staff in this center are meeting with these children and hearing their stories to be able to better assist them. ACAA always believe the children that come to them for services because they understand the detrimental implications that can occur towards individuals that are not believed. The services that ACAA offers increases the feelings of safety within these children, to help them develop skills to remain safe, and assist with developing healthy relationships in their future.
