AASAS Member Agency/Services Initiatives:

Grande Prairie PACE Sexual Assault Centre and the Caribou Child Youth Centre:

PACE offers a variety of programs to support individuals and families impacted by sexual violence. One of the programs they are involved with is through the Caribou Child Youth Centre which provides crisis intervention, emotional support and ongoing follow up to children that are victimized by abuse.

Working in partnership with the RCMP, Grande Prairie Victim Services, Child and Family Service, and the Crown, the Caribou Child Youth Centre works under a model of a Multi-Disciplinary Team approach to investigations. It’s a collaborative approach which strives to minimize stress, anxiety, and trauma to the child witness while working to promote safety, protection, and justice.

The Centre is a child focused and family friendly facility for abused children needing a safe and caring environment to deal with the trauma caused from their abuse. Support for these children and their non-offending parent and family members is ongoing throughout, from the disclosure, the investigation, and all subsequent involvement with the court system.

Last year, the Caribou Centre facilitated 71 forensic interviews, and assisted 83 non-offending family members.
