Ink and Watercolor with Carrie Wild
Carrie Wild’s delicate ink and watercolor paintings are inspired by the natural world, stories and myths, and historical design. Ideas are recorded and played with in a sketchbook before a “final” drawing is developed in a large sketch pad. This detailed drawing is then transferred via tracing paper to Arches cold-press watercolor paper.
Carrie uses Sakura Pigma Micron Pens (.005) to complete the stippling, or thousands of tiny dots, that make up the shading and texture of each work. The ink is waterproof, so once the stippling is complete, the drawing becomes a painting with the addition of watercolor. Trained as an oil painter, Carrie mixes her colors on a palette rather than the paper.
She does all of her own framing, using archival mat board and both custom and vintage frames. An antiques restoration craftsperson for 15 years, Carrie utilizes those skills to source, repair and update vintage frames to give them new life. Frames are selected to complement each painting, but sometimes she works in reverse, designing pieces that suit the frames themselves.
Carrie offers originals and reproductions of her paintings at Art IN Hand, and also via her website, www.carriewild.com.
