Do you know how wood art is created?

Art IN Hand artist Bob Anderson explains:
I have always enjoyed nature and working with my hands making things.  My love of nature and trees drew me to using wood as a material for artistic expression and my love of making things drew me into becoming a chemist and synthesizing new molecules to fight disease.  Since my retirement from the pharmaceutical industry I have focussed my attention on my wood art, beekeeping, and music.

Wood has a visual and tactile warmth not found in man-made materials. I find the process of taking my raw material, a tree, and converting it into an object with pleasing lines, accentuating and showcasing the natural figure and color of the wood, both inspiring and satisfying.

My work has both traditional and contemporary styling. I use locally harvested hardwoods that have exceptional figure and color from which I make traditional items such as bowls, platters, and peppermills, while employing a minimalist form to yield clean flowing lines. I may use hand-carving as an enhancement to form, and I explore nature, scientific, astronomical, and whimsical subjects through sculpture to tell stories and make statements.

I have recently also pursued copper sculpture with hand-hammered and flame-painted copper wall hangings of natural scenes comprised of butterflies, bullrushes, and leaf sprays.
