How a Fine Art Photograph is Created

There is more than just pressing the shutter to get that perfect photo.  Photographers use proper exposure techniques to get the image that they want.  One example is by adjusting the aperture (the opening that allows light in) and the shutter speed.  The shutter speed controls motion, while the aperture of the camera controls the depth of field, or how much of the image is in focus
If the photographer wants most of the background blurred to bring out the subject, then the aperture is 
the important part of the exposure.  A larger opening produces a shallow depth of field, which means the background becomes blurry.  The photographer then adjusts the shutter speed to match the aperture setting for proper exposure.
