Letter from the President

Hello fellow WACUHO members!

I hope you are well and finding some time for a little respite this summer! We are looking forward to an exciting year for WACUHO and certainly want you to be a part of it.

I would like to send my sincere gratitude to all our members who volunteered their time and talents last year, from committee chairs and members, to elected officers, to participants at each of our events.

Our new executive committee had its first meeting on the Cal State Monterey Bay campus in June during which we were imparted wisdom from the amazing 2013-2014 executive committee members and started planning for the year to come.  Also meeting during the same period were the WACE 2015 committees, getting ready to involve you in our annual conference and exposition in Monterey, CA next spring. And last, but not least, our wise and passionate strategic planning task force had a day of assessment and visioning as they prepare a plan to present to the membership next spring.

We are on a roll with increased individual participation, tried and true programs like our RAPs, recent innovations exemplified by the PMI mentor chats, our ad-hoc strategic planning task force, and over 30 active committees like out newly introduced Women of WACUHO (WOW!)

This year we will face a number of challenges, for which each of us could use the support of others in our WACUHO community. Untangling the spectrum of title IX expectations and implementation; continuing to address aging facilities and providing service amid construction; helping students understand financing their education; and most importantly, supporting academic success for all who enter our buildings are among the challenges we face.  Let’s face them together…and that is why I hope you get a chance for a little rest this summer.

Stephen Fleischer
2014-2015 WACUHO President
