Partnership with Elizabethtown College
LDSA is very excited to announce a new partnership with Dr. Tyminski at Elizabethtown College. Dr. Tyminski teachers a class on special education that every teaching student must take. Our goal is to not only give these students hands on experience working with people with developmental delays, but also time with parents to learn and understand our concerns, issues, and praises with the education system. This will, hopefully, be an ongoing relationship with the potential to touch 25+ soon to be teachers each semester! The students this semester are looking to help with our sports clinics, shadow our children in inclusive schooling environments, work one on one with families and possibly even create a music class. Other ideas we are working on involve a round table discussion between students and families to pass information and questions about education and opportunities for the students to plug into our community and spread awareness.
We are currently seeking families that would be interested in working with 2-3 students. The students would be interested in applying their educational knowledge to work with your child with developmental delays. Please email email@example.com if this is something of intererest to you.
Training for Lancaster's First Responders!
We are partnering with the Excentia and the First Responder Training facility to offer training to our first responders on interacting in our community with people with intellectual delays and disabilities. The training will be taking place March 25th and will be open to all first responders in Lancaster County!
Be a Dadvocate!
Are you a Dad, Grandfather, Uncle, Cousin, Brother, etc. to a child with a disability and feel like you want be more involved in advocating for your loved one? LDSA is putting together a Dadvocate group for just that purpose. Although we will mostly let the members create the vision for the group, the general idea is that this group would run a fundraiser (like a golf tournament) and hold monthly meetings to discuss and learn how to be the best advocate for your family. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
