Partnership with Elizabethtown College
In February, we announced a partnership with Dr. Tyminski at Elizabethtown College.  Dr. Tyminski teachers a class on special education that every teaching student must take.  Our goal is to not only give these students hands on experience working with people with developmental delays, but also time with parents to learn and understand our concerns, issues, and praises with the education system.   This will, hopefully, be an ongoing relationship with the potential to touch 25+ soon to be teachers each semester! These students have been hard at work setting up science classes, music classes, presenting at our meetings, and interacting with our families!

Please, if you have the ability, please consider coming to some of the events on which they are working.  We are helping to prepare these students for working with individuals with developmental delays by allowing them to interact with our children and us, as parents.  This is the next generation of teachers - what a great opportunity!

Training for Lancaster's First Responders!
LDSA, Excentia, and the First Responder Training Facility presented to two groups of first responders on Wednesday, March 25th.  Excentia did a fantastic job with the information and presentation.  They also will be creating a video of the training.  We will be presenting this to the International Down Syndrome Coalition to possibly use as a national training program.  This will be an ongoing training in Lancaster and I'm happy to say we had great feedback from those that attended!

Be a Dadvocate!
Are you a Dad, Grandfather, Uncle, Cousin, Brother, etc. to a child with a disability and feel like you want be more involved in advocating for your loved one? LDSA is putting together a Dadvocate group for just that purpose.  The Dads are looking to setup their first meeting and Casey is looking into the details for this group to run a golf tournament fundraiser in the Spring!  Please email dadvocate@lancasterdsa.orgfor more information.

Partnership with Celebrate Down Syndrome
As you may have noticed, LDSA and CDS have decided to co-sponsor more events in the community.  While LDSA has always supported the social activities from CDS, we are very excited to make many of these a more official partnership - look for much more of this as the year continues!

321 Dance!
Speaking of partnering with CDS, we are working with CDS on plans to reschedule this dance as a combined effort!  We are looking at dates in late September or Early October.  As soon as we have a commitment from all parties involved, we will definitely let you know!

Volunteers needed!!
Do you LOVE what we are doing?  We would LOVE to have to you help us!  We don't need you to donate hours and hours of your time - we know everyone is busy, but we really could use the help on some of our upcoming projects!  Even an hour a month could help us tremendously!  Please email us at contact@lancasterdsa.org if you are interested in helping us in any way!
