Dear Friends,

Though we’re sad to see summer end at EVYP, we are eager to usher in a new school year! The start of September marks a new season and a new year for EVYP and our students. Our High School and Tutoring programs begin this month, as well as some workshop offerings during weekends. Details on our workshops, programs and how to apply are below!

Also, we’ll be continuing our community engagement in the Avondale neighborhood with our outreach table, set up in front of EVYP. See below for dates and times to come visit us! We also have a brief recap of our first College Success program workshop for the school year, we had a great turnout and got to wish our college students good-luck before they head off to another year in college!

Recap: College Workshop

We held our first College Workshop of the year at EVYP on August 13th. Led by Julia Gerasimenko, participants took the FOCUS 2 Career Assessment, an assessment that matches careers to students’ self-selected strengths and academic interests, and updated 5-year plans. Robust discussions were centered on how to foster a sense of belonging on a college campus, as well as how to seek out professional experiences related to their undergraduate fields of study.

826CHI at EVYP

We’re excited to welcome back 826CHI for a series of writing workshops this fall! 826CHI will provide volunteers who will work one-on-one with our high school seniors on their personal statements for college applications. Our partnership with 826CHI allows students to get personal attention and specific feedback on their writing from highly-skilled volunteers trained creative writing. Dates for the first two workshops are below, but there will be more workshops throughout the year (dates to follow)!
Saturday, September 17th: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Saturday, October 1st: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
