A Note from EVYP Executive Director

Dear Friend:

EVYP is ready to jump in and start fresh for 2015! At the beginning of the holiday season we took part in #GivingTuesday; we were overwhelmed with the incredible support we received that day. December also brought our annual EVYP Family Holiday Party, one of our favorite events all year!

Featured this month in our ‘Student Spotlight” is EVYP freshman, Lucero Herrera. Lucero loves to play the violin and wanted to share her musical story.

Mark your calendars for our Fourth Annual Evening of Revolution on Tuesday February 24, 2015. The link for presale tickets is below - we hope to see you all there!

Last, but not least, we once again have our monthly poll. Don’t forget to vote, this helps us make a better eNewsletter for you!

With Gratitude,

Stephanie Willding, MPA
Executive Director

#GivingTuesday Update

December 2 was #GivingTuesday, a global day of support for non-profit organizations. It was the first year EVYP joined the movement. We started the day with an initial goal of $2,500 and once we met our goal, we raised the bar that day and set a new goal of $7,500. In total, EVYP raised over $11,000 that day. We are astounded by the support and send our most sincere thanks to all of you, our supporters! You continue to help make college dreams come true for the underserved youth in Chicago!

Holiday Party

On Wednesday December 17, EVYP students and families celebrated our annual holiday party, sponsored by Joe’s Bar on Weed St. Everyone brought a dish to share and we all enjoyed a holiday meal together. After dinner, games were played and holiday cheer filled our site. Our students, parents, and staff look forward to this event every year. Many of our college students that are home for the holidays even stop by for a visit! To see the full photo album, check out our Facebook page here!

Evening of Revolution

EVYP is excited to announce our Fourth Annual Evening of Revolution on Tuesday February 24 from 6:30-8:30pm. Presale tickets are available now for $35 and include bottomless beer and appetizers. This event sells out almost every year so get your tickets today and help make college dreams come true for Chicago youth!

Student Spotlight

Lucero Herrera, currently a freshman at Lincoln Park High School, started playing the violin in third grade. She is now a musician in the school orchestra and her favorite piece to play is “Canon in D.” The hardest part for her is finding time to practice between late nights spent doing homework, but it’s worth the dedication when she has the opportunity to perform in front of people.
