A Note From EVYP Executive Director
It is another exciting month for East Village Youth Program. In addition to surviving a polar vortex we have seen huge growth in our Facebook following and launched a professional LinkedIn page so our students can better network. In this newsletter you will also find many exciting updates from our students in high school and college who are going above and beyond in their work. Finally, I hope you will enjoy learning more about our upcoming events, including our 3rd Annual Evening of Revolution. We hope you will join us as we celebrate 25 years of making college dreams a reality.

Follow Us on LinkedIn!
EVYP invites you to join our professional network on LinkedIn. EVYP has created a Company page to utilize networking between our organization, our supporters and our students. For new graduates, creating a professional network can be a challenge; EVYP has stepped in to help out!. By following EVYP on LinkedIn, you will get professional updates from us, make connections with our students and potentially share internships and job opportunities. This is just one of the many ways you can help our students become successful young professionals. We hope you will join in us in our mission.
Fan Drive Update
Our Fan Drive was a huge success! Between Dec. 1, 2013 and Jan. 31, 2014 EVYP added 388 followers on Facebook. At $5 a like, our anonymous donor has given us $1940.00! Thank you to everyone who helped out by spreading the word!
Meet EVYP Extern, Yesenia Silva
Freshman at DePauw University
"My major is 'Undecided' but I know that whatever I decide, I will ultimately be helping people.
At the start of my externship at East Village I knew that I would come out as a different person, a person that has a greater understanding of working in the nonprofit environment. Thanks to the staff here at EVYP I was able to see the world behind running a nonprofit organization. Whether it was working with the high school students or learning how to compose a social media calendar I was working towards my dream of one day starting my own nonprofit similar to EVYP. Experiencing this environment gave me insight on how to properly manage the business side of a nonprofit and the kind of information I will need to know to successfully run an organization in the future. I can honestly say that I have gained new skills while being here that have given me a different viewpoint on my future career goals. I would like to thank the EVYP staff for allowing me to work with them and gain lifelong memories." - Yesenia Silva

Student Showcase

Josue Vargus is a senior and has been a part of EVYP for six years. “Motion in Shapes” was created out of cardboard and fabric, as well as old film from a VHS tape. His inspiration was a dress that he previously designed, which provoked the idea of using patterns to show shapes within shapes
