Hello Friends!

October was an exciting month here at EVYP! Fall is here, the leaves are falling and we are keeping busy with our students and parents. We hosted our second Parent Workshop this school year for the parents of our junior and senior classes on the basics of financial aid for college. Read about it below! Make sure you stay up to date on EVYP’s upcoming workshops and events by following our Facebook page!

We are also very excited to welcome Geraldo Ortiz to the EVYP family. He started working with us in October as our Development and Program Assistant. We look forward to getting to know him more and working together to achieve EVYP’s mission! Also, make sure you don’t forget to mark your calendars for #GivingTuesday. We look forward to this event all year!
                                                                                                                             Sincere Thanks,
                                                         Stephanie Baki, Executive Director

In 2015, 77% of EVYP college students graduated within 5 years.

Parent Workshop, October 2015

We recently had a workshop for the parents of our  juniors and seniors on the basics of financial aid for college. The workshop was hosted by Program Manager, Julia Gerasimenko, in collaboration with the Illinois Student Assistant Commission (ISAC). ISAC members presented a program entitled “College is Possible” where recent college graduates educate young people and parents about college and financial aid. Parents learned about the correlation between unemployment rates and degrees of higher education, the different types of federal and state grants and loans that are available and a general overview of the FAFSA.

Geraldo Ortiz, Development and Program Assistant

Geraldo joined EVYP as the Development and Program Assistant in October 2015. He received his B.A. in Communications from Northeastern Illinois University. With a passion for helping others, especially undeserved youth, he always knew he would find his place helping students to pursue their college dreams. As a Latino, first generation, college graduate who grew up in the Logan Square Neighborhood, he saw EVYP as the perfect fit. We are excited to welcome him to the EVYP team!

#GivingTuesday December 1, 2015

To help EVYP continue making college dreams come true we invite you to join our #GivingTuesday campaign on December 1. Now is your chance to double your impact. In an effort to help reach our $5,000 goal, an anonymous donor has committed to match every donation we receive on #GivingTuesday up to $2,500. No donation is too small! Your $20 donation becomes $40... $100 becomes $200! You can make double the impact by giving on December 1. Mark your calendars and take part in this global fundraising event!
