The first day of winter is right around the corner, it’s time to bundle up and get ready for the cold! November was an eventful month at EVYP, full of trips for our students. Our junior class had a college visit on Veteran’s Day to the Illinois Institute of Technology. We also went on a field trip to Starved Rock for the second year in a row. Read more about it below and check out the pictures on our Facebook page!
Justeen Pelt is featured in this month’s Alumni Spotlight. Justeen is a very hard working young woman and we are proud to have her as part of our EVYP family. Finally, make sure you mark your calendars for EVYP’s 5th Annual Evening of Revolution on Tuesday February 23 from 6:30–8:30pm. We hope to see you all there! Have a happy holiday season! Sincere Thanks,
Thank you to everyone who donated on Giving Tuesday! Our goal was $5,000 and with your generous support we were able to surpass our goal! Our total for the day reached $5,535! Your support will make a significant impact on the lives of our students!
Illinois Institute of Technology Visit, November 2015
On November 11th, EVYP took 12 juniors to visit the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). Our students were able to talk with current students, faculty and staff to see what IIT was all about! They got an in-deph look at the college campus, academic programs and overall campus life. The junior class had a great time visiting the campus and we expect IIT to be one of the schools our students apply for!
Starved Rock, November 2015
For the second year in a row EVYP staff and students went on a field trip to Starved Rock State Park in Oglesby, IL to enjoy some time outdoors! Tour guides from Chicago Voyagers led the fun by teaching our students how to read a map and use a compass. The day started with fun icebreakers focusing on leadership. Little did they know these skill would come in handy later in the day. Throughout the hike each student took turns as the leader, guiding each other using their new skills. It was a day filled with fun and beauty.

What made you decide to join EVYP?
I joined EVYP because the program was diverse, fun and most importantly a resource to help me obtain a college degree.
What was the most memorable moment for you at EVYP?
My most memorable moment at EVYP was our college tours. It was the first time that I traveled to a college campus. The trips motivated me to attend a four-year university.
What are you doing now?
I am currently an intact case manager with OMNI Youth Services. As a case manager, I work with the Department of Children and Family Services to keep families together.
How did EVYP help you get to where you are today?
EVYP was an integral part in helping me achieve my goals. Through the program, I was able to attend a four-year university and graduate. I am a first generation college student. EVYP helped me navigate the process of applying for schools, completing my financial aid applications and visiting colleges. I also met some amazing friends through the program!
Is there anything else you would like to add about EVYP?
I just want to thank everyone at EVYP for their hard work and dedication to the youth and communities they serve.
