Dear <<First Name>>,

Thank you for your ongoing support of the Centre County Farmland Trust. Hopefully you received our recent newsletter and noted that we are in the process of trying to collect email addresses for as many of our members as possible so that we can move more of our communication to electronic format. Thank you for giving us your email address!

We are sending our first action alert because of a pressing issue that impacts farmland conservation - the Enhanced Easement Incentive.

This incentive offers greater tax deductions for landowners who donate their development rights to qualified land trusts like ours, a major incentive for farmland conservation. With the enhanced easement incentive, qualified farmers and ranchers are able to deduct up to 100% of their adjusted gross income from their federal income taxes for 15 years or until they have used up the value of their donation. This is a critical tool that benefits easement donors and promotes conservation, and it is set to expire on December 31, 2013.

Organizations like the Land Trust Alliance are working hard at a national level to save the expiring tax incentive, and we need your help at a local level.

Visit the Land Trust Alliance's Enhanced Easement Incentive page to learn more about the incentive and the bills that have been introduced to make it permanent.

You can take action today by contacting your representatives and asking for their support to renew the Enhanced Easement Incentive and make it permanent.
  • Urge Representatives to become co-sponsors of the Conservation Easement Incentive Act, H.R. 2807, introduced by Reps. Jim Gerlach (R-PA) and Mike Thompson (D-CA).
  • Urge Senators to co-sponsor the Rural Heritage Conservation Extension Act, S. 526, introduced by Senators Max Baucus (D-MT) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT).

Now is the time to act - help us secure this important conservation tool!

With gratitude,

Pete Schempf
