Lesson & class updates

We were overly optimistic about starting one-on-one lessons in January; it seems that all the "nice" days were on Mondays or Tuesdays. We're going to start in March and hope for the best! As a reminder, our beginner and novice riding and maintenance lessons take place outdoors on Fridays & Saturdays, with temperatures ideally above 40/45 degrees and sunny.

KJ will be lead teaching the inaugural 2022 Adult Learn-to-Ride session for Walk Bike Nashville. We provide bicycles, helmets, water, and snacks; you bring the curiousity and determination! This class is for adults who have either never learned to ride a bicycle or who have been away from two wheels for a long time. Registration is required to attend, and the event is weather dependent.

E-bikes on greenways "study" update

An e-bike is pictured in front of a greenway map in Madison, TN in February 2022.Metro Parks and NDOT have released their draft e-bikes on greenways "study" and survey results to the Greenways and Open Space commissioners, who are expected to issue a recommendation at their meeting on Tuesday, February 9th. You can view the survey here (PDF).

Since 2016, e-bikes have been explicitly permitted on local trails per Tennessee state law. There's a lot that's incorrect and confusing with this "study" and the draft recommendations. If you live in Davidson County, please write to the Greenways & Open Space commissioners (contact information here (PDF)) to ask them to continue to abide by state law regarding e-bikes on local trails.

I am happy to connect with you to answer any questions you might have about e-bikes - and, if you'd like, we can go for an e-bike ride together on one of the BCycle e-assist bikes around Nashville. (My treat.)

Nashville is in desperate need of its own assists to both reduce traffic and provide incentive for human-powered transportation, and in my professional bicycle industry opinion, e-bikes - including bikeshare e-bikes - help get Nashville over that hump.
