huffy tire 2022Should I buy this bike?

Buying a used bike in Nashville can be difficult because there are no secondhand-specific bike stores in town, or bike kitchens or co-ops that will help you figure out how to fix that bike you bought from a private seller. Let this guide help empower you to know what is within your capacity to fix!

The folks over at Everyday Superpowers put together a UK-specific list of bike parts, pricing, & reasons to WALK AWAY from buying a used bike. There are LOTS of good used bikes out there - but if you don't know much about quality or repair costs, it can get tricky. Check out the US-specific version that Bike Fun put together - it's free to download & share.

Tire check!

With all the rain we have been having, a lot of schmutz is washed across the road and towards the gutter. If you ride on the streets, you'll want to check your tires for any items lodged in the rubber. Sometimes, small slivers of glass or metal  can work their way through the tire and cause repeated flats. Take your tire off the rim and remove the tube from the inside. Use a flashlight to check the inside of the tire. This is a good chance to check your rim tape for wear or movement, too.
