Why solidarity now more than ever 


On the 20 Sept the people of Greece will again be asked to elect a new Government in the political fall out from the third memoranda.

Meanwhile the debt crisis is unresolved and the people suffer. The political picture has become more complex but the need for a non-party political movement in solidarity with Greece is needed more now than ever.  Read more

Children suffer in Greek health crisis 


The number of unvaccinated children as a result of the economic crisis in Greece is rising. The number is now estimated to be more than
250 000 children. 

Greece has the highest growth rate for child poverty in the world according to Unicef.

Kalamata clinic  


On 1 Sept Paul Mackney and Cherry Sewell, from the Greece Solidarity Campaign took medicines and a donation to the Kalamata Social Solidarity Clinic in the Peloponnese region

100% of the money from Medical Aid for Greece is given to clinics like Kalamata, the current priority being children's vaccines.

Debt campaign victory in the UN

On 10 Sept the UN general assembly approved the 9 principles for debt restructuring called for by debt campaigners. 136 voted in favour. The UK and Germany were in the 6 who voted against. Read more 

This development was urged earlier in the month in an open letter signed by Yanis Varoufakis and Thomas Piketty among other leading figures.

23 Oct former Greek Minister of Finance Yanis Varoufakis and Pablo Iglesias, the leader of Spain's Podemos party, come together in London to talk about the future of the left in Europe in an event organised by the Guardian. Read more 

Varoufakis is also speaking at anti austerity rallies tonight at the PCS union TUC fringe event in Brighton and tomorrow night with the Peoples Assembly in London (FULLY BOOKED)

Lazy Greeks?


Official figures show the Greek people work 3rd longest hours  of all OECD countries, with Germany at the bottom of the list.

EU figures from before the economic crisis hit Greece in 2010 also showed working hours of Greeks were among the longest in Europe.

Solidarity with Greece's refugees 


Members of the Greece Solidarity Campaign joined with the hundreds of thousands who marched for the European day of action for refugees yesterday.

Golden Dawn rises


As widely predicted, the lack of resolution to the debt crisis and the terms imposed on Greece have renewed the rise of the fascist far right. 

Some polls show Golden Dawn will be the 3rd largest party in parliament after 20 Sept.
