TBF Race #1 Update.
The word is that the course is drying up fairly well. Promoter states that "there will not be a problem with the course" via email today.
They have updated race start times in the last 48 hours
Juniors start at 8:00 AM
Adults, including high school divisions at 9:00 AM
This presents a few options...
Looking at the results from last year there are a few 12 and 13 year olds in the high school divisions. So using my daughter Mya as an example: Mya is 13 but will now race the high school novice division thus allowing her to start at 9 AM. The high school novice race is the exact same course and distance as the junior race at 8 AM on Sunday. Note that as the races progress through the season the novice races do become longer than the junior races (race #2 is still 6 miles for junior but novice will be 12). So the novice high school race this Sunday is 6 miles just like the junior race.
We are choosing to do this for a few reasons:
1) We can leave 1 hour later on Sunday morning to drive to Folsom
2) She will get to race a longer race in a few wks
I present this as an option to make travel easier on Sunday morning for those planning to go. For us this is the difference between getting a hotel Saturday night and being able to leave early Sunday morning.
Email me with any category questions you may have.
Please feel free to still have your athlete race the junior category at 8 AM if he/she is 14 and under and would prefer to do that race.
Note that I will likely arrive at 7:30 to 7:45 AM to be able to watch the juniors start. I will NOT be there early enough to help our racers doing the junior category register. These athletes need to arrive by 7 AM at the latest and register, get dressed for the race, and start warming up by 7:20 AM.
Our special deal that avoids late fees is for our team only!
We have been asked to not share this deal with anyone else or it could be revoked. They don't want everyone from Reno saying they get the Reno Devo deal. When you do register you must ask for Bill Driskill. Tell him that you are on Reno Devo and have been told that you don't have to pay a late fee. Then make sure to thank him!
Below is a picture of what the trails could look like on Sunday. This is a pic from the TBF website, from last year, on the same trails we will be racing.
Finally....please let me know if you are going on Sunday! Since we don't yet have team clothing you are free to wear kits from last year or what ever you may have available. Just make sure to list "Reno Devo" as your team. You do not need a USA Cycling license for the TBF races.
