Tues, Dec 1st 6:30pm
Longfellow Middle School Auditorium - 1500 Derby Street, Berkeley, CA 94703
On Tuesday, the City Council will receive a report from the Berkeley Police Review Commission concerning the Berkeley Police Department's many mis-steps, excesses, and failures to hold anyone accountable after the Dec 6th 2014 #BlackLivesMatter protests. While the PRC report contains many worthwhile reforms, we don’t believe that it has resolved the most important point: cops who brutalize members of our community MUST be disciplined and LEADERS who authorize this kind of violence must also be held accountable and told that this is wrong. We encourage residents and those who witnessed the police response to contact your city council representative and demand justice for the people of Berkeley and accountability for the Berkeley police.
To that effect, we've created an interactive timeline which can help you review the events of the night:
The City Council will also be discussing the city's involvement and participation in Urban Shield, a highly militarized SWAT training and weapons expo. Join the Stop Urban Shield Coalition as we demand that Berkeley withdraw their participation in the policing program.
Additionally, the council will discuss potential amendments to the new set of anti-homeless laws recently passed.
There's plenty of reason to be there!
