We did it - thank you to everyone who sang, played the organ, sponsored hymns or singers and prepared the refreshments!

We sang all 542 hymns in the New English Hymnal and it took almost 31 hours! In the Grand Finale (below) we sang God Is Love, the hymn which raised most money. Thank you to all who sang, played the organ, donated, sponsored hymns or singers, or made cakes, sandwiches, breakfast, tea and coffee!

Thanks to all the local choirs, churches and schools who took part, including  singers from: Chiswick Choir, the Hogarth Singers, St Michael & All Angels Choir and Choristers, St Peter's Southfield Road, St Michael's Elmwood Road, Our Lady of Grace, St Saviour Wendell Park,  St Michael & All Angels Barnes,  Chiswick Churches for Justice & Peace, Arts Ed, Chiswick & Bedford Park School, Orchard House School and singers from our three charities, The Upper Room, Msaada and The Amber Trust.

Mother Sarah Lenton (right) put up almost all the hymn numbers. And she took this photo at 2.30am when the choir processed around the church singing  “We plough the fields and scatter…” Shortly afterwards, singers from Arts Ed arrived, on their way back from a party!

This was the final Top Ten, as measured by donations, with God is Love the clear winner. Including Gift Aid, we’ve raised almost £20,000 so far, and we hope there’s a bit more to come. Thank you! You can still make donations at Just Giving / Hymnathon 2017.
Don’t miss Jeremy Vine’s video on Facebook showing the cutting of the Hymnal cake by Oliver West, who masterminded – and played the organ at – all three of our Hymnathons, in 1987, 2012 and 2017. You can see lots more updates on Twitter and the St Michael & All Angels website – and watch out for the video and our own film by Kelvin Murray.
