The Wilmington Vegan Dining Guide is now available!! We just received the copies hot off the press! This is a historical first for Wilmington, NC!!
The guide includes restaurant listings, business listings, and community information. Take a look online at: http://wilmingtonvegan.com/dining-guide. Printed copies will soon be available at all locations listed in the guide. If you're interested in helping with distribution, please contact us. If you are able to help by making a donation, please do by clicking the donate button on the website. We ran over budget and need all the help we can get in order to continue our efforts.
Please share and celebrate the release of this amazing resource for our community! This will lead to better options for us, healthier lives, less environmental impact, and most importantly, less animal suffering! Wilmington Vegan was featured in the Wilmington Star News! Food reporter Paul Stephen came to one of our board meetings to interview us about our soon-to-be-released dining guide, our Earth Day tabling, and the rise of veganism in Wilmington. Here’s a nice PDF version of the actual paper article.
While speaking with Paul, we all agreed that Sealevel City Gourmet was our new favorite restaurant in town. He headed over there next to interview local vegan chef Emily Lyons. Take a look at the fantastic Star News article about Emily and Sealevel. Wilmington Vegan had a blast at the Wilmington Earth Day Festival!
For the first time in Wilmington history, a vegan group was represented at the Earth Day Festival. We are thrilled to have been part of this amazing change!
The huge crowd blew us away. There are more people in Wilmington than we could have imagined who are interested in veganism! There are more people than we could have imagined who are already vegan or vegetarian or somewhere along the way. Many people had already heard of us and were excited to meet us. We also had vegans come up to us and exclaim “I didn’t know there were other vegans in Wilmington!”
Numerous new folks filled out the signup sheet for the newsletter, volunteering, and the mentor program too! People loved our table and our display (especially the swimming piggy photo). All our boxes and boxes of handouts were gone! And the brownies. Oh did people ooh and aah over the brownies! Wilmington Vegan also presented at the Pawz In Park event at Battleship Park on May 3rd. Christine Chavez and Sandra Sharpe ran our booth, talked to folks, and gave away vegan chocolate chip cookies to a lucky few. The entire event was expertly run by Cat Clement. Plus, local vegan band Folkstar performed on the park stage and it was an absolutely beautiful day!!
Find out a lot more about what's going on by visiting wilmingtonvegan.com and by participating in our Facebook discussion group. And please consider volunteering! We need help with tech work, website finessing, graphic design, media outreach, events, tabling, guide distribution, etc. If you're good at just about anything, we could use your help. Join in and help build a better community for all!
