Film Club 13th September

The next Whixley Film club night will be on Friday September 13th at 8:00pm in the Village Hall when will be showing Bohemian Rhapsody. The story of the legendary rock band Queen and lead singer Freddie Mercury, leading up to their famous performance at Live Aid (1985). Stars Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee.

You don't have to be a member of the film club to come along and give it a try. It's a social evening with a full bar service, and if you would like to join it's only £20 a year for as many films as you want to see. Click HERE for more information

Charity Bridge Afternoon

This is an important fundraiser for the village hall, and is open for bookings. The cost is just £10 per head, £40 per table. The date is Thursday 10th October 2019, with play starting at 1:30pm and the price includes afternoon tea. Full details can be found HERE. The World Cycling Championships

The World Cycling Championships will be coming through Whixley on Friday 27th September 2019. The route for that day starts in Doncaster and finishes in Harrogate, and the race will come through Whixley via Station Road and Rudgate.

Village Lottery 

Since the start of the lottery last October over £800 has been paid out in prize money to 20 lucky winners. The lottery runs over a 10-month period with a draw held on the last day of each month from October to July. 

After August 31st all lottery numbers purchased for the 2018/19 period will lapse, unless they have been renewed. Every purchaser received an email inviting them to renew their number(s) for the 2019/2020 lottery and many have taken up that option. If you have received such an email and would like to renew your number(s) please email webmaster@whixley.org as soon as you can. The first draw of the next period will be on October 31st.

There are 200 numbers available at a cost of £2 per month (£20 for all 10 months payable in advance). WI Open Meeting, 3rd September


At the next meeting of the Whixley WI there will be a presentation from the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. The date is Tuesday 3rd September with a 7.15pm start. Come along to hear about the Air Ambulance, and how they are able to reach a medical emergency in rapid time which can make the difference between life and death.

Visitors welcome at a cost of £4. There will, of course, be the usual Raffle and refreshments, etc

Newton-On-Ouse Treasure Hunt, 14th September, 2pm

Fancy a gentle stroll around the village of Newton on a Saturday afternoon? The Newton WI have organised a treasure hunt for the day, click the title link for details. 

SoccerKidz comes to Whixley

SoccerKidz sessions will start in the Village Hall on Tuesday September 10th. The sessions are designed for girls and boys, confident walkers to school age children. CRB checked coaches have been running sessions for over 8 years in the Harrogate area, providing a safe, non-competitive environment whilst helping to build confidence. Children will work on developing their key motor skills, speech, numeracy, colour identification and of course have lots of fun along the way!

Harvest Supper, Friday October 4th

Come and join us in the Village Hall for a celebration of the Harvest at the annual supper on Friday October 4th.The auction is assembled from generous donations: vegetables, fruit and plants, jams, pickles, chutneys, liqueurs (sloe gin is popular) and baking, both savoury and sweet.   Most produce is home-made, no air miles, and the bidding is fierce for these and the other non-edible donations.

These can be given to Enid 331031 or Barry 331419 beforehand or brought on the night.              

Diary Date - December 14th, The Heritage Boys

Fancy a night of 60's music performed live on stage by The Heritage Boys? Maybe a bit of a bop? Then this event is for you. Full details nearer the time but the event is a joint fundraiser for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Village Hall with proceeds being split between the two. Whixley Panto 2020 - your chance to star. 

Whixley Players are already planning their next blockbuster pantomime for February 2020. This year it’s Puss in Boots

Whixley pantos are renowned for their fun and laughter. They are also renowned for discovering new and hidden talent. Nervous people who have never acted before have loved it. 

We need about 3 more people this year to join our supportive and talented cast of about 15 players. This could be your chance to shine. You don’t need any experience and you are guaranteed to have a great time. We always welcome help behind the scenes too.

The first read through is on Sunday 15th September at 19:00.

Whixley Play Group

Don't forget that the Whixley Play Group runs during school term-time for babies to pre-school children.  Thursdays, 9:30-11:00 am in the Village Hall. £1 per adult or child and 50p for children 0-6 months. 

Facebook Group

If you are into Facebook then there is a Facebook Group that you can sign up to and use to communicate village issues to other group members. You can read about the group and why it could be useful and important by clicking the link above. Over 120 people have joined the group so far, and it's set up so that existing members can invite new members directly.

Neighbours Night
On the last Thursday of every month at 7pm there is an informal evening held in the Anchor pub called The Neighbours Night. This is organised each month by Steve Wright (stevewright765@icloud.com or call 01423 330639) and if you'd like to come along please email Steve and ask to be placed on his mailing list - and if you plan to come don't forget to let him know as the pub reserve places for the group.
