Groundbreaking Ceremony

On Tuesday, April 14, 2015, over 50 community leaders, stakeholders, volunteers and friends of UPWARD celebrated at a Groundbreaking for a newly expanded Campus Project scheduled to be completed in July 2016.

The new campus will include an additional 20,000 square feet of mostly program space.  CEO Doug Carter later said, “This new campus will increase our capacity to serve more children with special needs in our Private Day School.  In addition, we will be adding an Integrated Infant Childcare Program and doubling the capacity of the Adult Day Training Program.”

Carter went on to say “This is a Historical Event for Upward.  We are one of the oldest nonprofit organizations in Arizona, serving children with disabilities since 1958.  The newly expanded campus will ensure Upward will continue to serve some of our community’s most vulnerable children and young adults for generations to come.”

We are grateful for the support we have received from numerous Individuals, Foundations, and Corporations to make this dream a reality.

Create a Memory

UPWARD staff nominated three children for our Create a Memory award this quarter! Shawn and Shane Pittman are in our special needs preschool classroom and will be going off to kindergarten in the fall. Their teacher, Angelia Fugatt, nominated them to receive a day at Enchanted Island Amusement park along a picnic lunch for them and their parents.

Create a Memory continued
Angie Bekos, one of UPWARD's speech language pathologists, nominated Taylor Dennis, an outpatient client, for a day at the water park. Taylor and her family have been waiting for a nice summer day to go to the water park. Don't think they'll need to wait much longer!

End of Year Event

UPWARD's annual End of Year Event was held on Thursday, May 14th. The theme for this year's event was Renaissance!  The morning started out with a school and clinic wide pep rally along with a graduation ceremony for child care children going off to kindergarten in the fall, special needs preschoolers going back to district kindergartens or moving up to our K-5 classroom as well as a student moving up from junior high to high school!

After the rally and graduation, children and their families went to the classrooms to participate in fun activities with a Renaissance theme!
Thank You, Hensley Beverage Company

Hensley Beverage Company has been bringing refreshment to Arizona since 1955. UPWARD has been helping children and adults with special needs since 1958. Yesterday, we came together.

"Hensley provided 50 cases of water to help us get through the summer," said Upward CEO, Doug Carter.

A special thanks goes to Doug Yonko, VP Communications for Hensley Beverage Company for making this donation to the children of Upward.
Thanks to Phoenix West Rotary!
Thanks to Phoenix West Rotary! Nine of their members came for a tour recently bringing donations of art supplies, diapers and cash!
We very much appreciate them taking their time to visit us as well as the donations they brought!
