 WECSI
2 weeks until the World Engineering Conference on Sustainable Infrastructure hosted by the Nigerian Society of Engineers in Abuja
 WFEO represents engineering across UN
Environment Committee
Committee Chair Darrel Danyluk and Committee Secretary David Lapp took part in UNFCCC Climate Change negotiations in Bonn in June. Highlights:
  • Joint event with the World Meteorological Organisation and the Global Water Platform.
  • Meetings with national delegations to discuss capacity building needs on climate resilience.
  • Requests for use of the 'Public Infrastructure Engineering Vulnerability Committee' (PIEVC) protocol - a tool for infrastructure climate risk and vulnerability assessment for adaptation planning to improve climate resilience.
  • Introducing and sensitising delegates to the critical role of engineering in planning and implementing climate adaptation, mitigation adaptation and resilience strategies.
  • Operated a WFEO exhibit and information booth to raise the profile of engineering and engineers.
The committee will also be at COP20 (Lima) and COP21 (Paris) negotiations.

Anti-Corruption Committee
WFEO took part in the latest International Standardisation Organisation meetings in Miami on the development of a Anti-Bribery Management Systems standard. The meeting considered feedback from 39 countries.

The committee is also running a workshop at UNESCO on 10th December.

Capacity Building Committee
Members of the committee were busy supporting events in South Africa for the first Africa Engineering Week at request of UNESCO. The main exhibition was attended by over 2,000 school children. Committee chair Yashin Brijmohan co-ordinated activities with UNESCO and the South African Department of Science and Technology.
Influencing International Institutions
To help share WFEO's work as the voice of engineering in the United Nations system, we've launched a log of our UN-related activities from across all our Standing Technical Committees, our UN Relations Committee and our Secretariat.
 Sustainable Infrastructure event in Africa
The World Engineering Conference on Sustainable Infrastructure is hosted by the Nigerian Society of Engineers as the major event for WFEO in 2014.

The President of WFEO, Marwan Abdelhamid, will be speaking at the conference. He will be joined by representatives from several WFEO Standing Technical Committees and from its Secretariat. It will be a key event for WFEO in Africa.

Registration for the WECSI is still available. More details are on its website.

 Capacity Building focus: Abuja Declaration
Capacity Building of national members in developing countries will become a greater focus of WFEO's work in future.

WFEO President Marwan Abdelhamid and the President of the Federation of African Engineering Organisations (FAEO) Martin Van Veelen agreed the 'Abuja Declaration' last December. It will be launched at the WECSI.
President Abdelhamid will say "WFEO and FAEO are joining forces to help improve the performance of professional engineering organisations in Africa and to establish engineering institutions in African countries that do not yet have them". Progress with fundraising for capacity building activities will also be mentioned.
 Liberty International Underwriters boosts
