NACo Policy Steering Committee & Presidential Appointment Process Now Underway

It is time to submit your applications to serve on a wide variety of National Association of Counties’ (NACo) Committees!!!  There are two types of application processes that WSAC members and affiliate members must follow depending on which NACo Committee you are interested in serving on – and in what capacity:
 
  • NACo Policy Steering Committee Membership – NACo Steering Committee Nomination Form
  • NACo Presidential Appointment – NACo Presidential Appointment Application
  • Chairs and vice chairs of NACo Policy Steering Committee and subcommittee
  • LUCC and RAC chairs, vice chairs and members
  • Standing Committee chairs, vice chairs and members
  • Ad Hoc Committee, Task Force and Advisory Board chairs, vice chairs and members
  • At-Large NACo Board Director
  • NACo Policy Steering Committee Membership

If you would like WSAC to nominate you to one of the 10 NACo Steering Committees please complete our NACO Steering Committee Nomination Form  no later than Friday, June 12.
 
If you are already a member of a NACo Steering Committee and wish to be re-appointed, you must also complete our NACO Steering Committee Nomination Form  no later than Friday, June 12.

NACo Aspire Award

NACo and Nationwide Announce First Plan Sponsor Aspire Award


Applications may be submitted to plansponsor2015@naco.org or mailed to Aspire Award, NACo, 25 Massachusetts Ave, NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC 20001.
 
NACo and Nationwide Retirement Solutions have announced the first “Aspire Award: Honoring Innovative Leadership in Promoting County Employee Retirement Savings” to recognize two counties that have gone above and beyond in empowering their employees for retirement success.  Counties who offer their employees the opportunity to participate in the NACo Deferred Compensation Program, administered by Nationwide Retirement Solutions, are eligible for nomination for the Aspire Award.

As an employer, a county serves as plan sponsor to its employees’ retirement programs.  Some counties have developed and implemented innovative approaches to create opportunities for their employees to be retirement ready.

The first annual Aspire Award: Honoring Innovative Leadership in Promoting County Employee Retirement Savings” will be presented during NACo’s Annual Conference, July 10-13, 2015 in Mecklenburg County (Charlotte), North Carolina.

Two awards will be presented.  Consideration will be given to the plan sponsors who present measurable outcomes that result from unique, unusual, and original efforts to successfully engage county employees in their retirement futures.

USDA Announces $285 Million for Rural School Payments

$285 million to be distribute to 41 States and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico

WASHINGTON, April 27, 2015 - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced today that $285 million will go to 41 states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico this year in support of local schools and roads as part of the Congressional two-year reauthorization of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act.

"This support is part of the administration's ongoing commitment to rural communities," said Secretary Vilsack. "The Forest Service's century-long support of America's public schools and roads is one of many ways in which USDA helps rural communities remain self-sustaining and prosperous." Continue Reading

Free Statewide Membership to Alliance for Innovation Available through MRSC

MRSC has partnered with the SAO’s Local Government Performance Center to offer a 1-year free membership to the Alliance for Innovation to all local governments in Washington.
 

About the Alliance For Innovation

Made up of an international network of progressive governments and partners, including the International City/County Management Association and Arizona State University, the Alliance for Innovation was designed as a focal point for government leaders committed to transforming local government by accelerating the development and dissemination of innovations. Today it has grown to include thousands of members and hundreds of jurisdictions, providing opportunities for policy research on topic areas from civic engagement to emergency preparedness and everything in between.
