The Last Day: A Day of Terror For All Those Who Troubled God's People

Our world is full of victims of abuse, violence, and oppression. In many cases, this evil goes unnoticed or unpunished. Injustice can drive victims in two possible directions. They can be filled with despair over the unfairness of the situation. Or they can be filled with hatred and a desire for revenge. While Christians wait for Christ’s return on the Last Day, they are by no means the only ones who suffer at the hands of others. They are, however, often included among them. Believers have always faced opposition from a world who rejects the one we believe in. When we suffer, what are our options? Do we throw up our hands in despair? Do we take matters into our own hands and seek vengeance? The certainty of that Last Day gives us a better option. We can leave justice up to the Judge. We can be confident that on the Last Day every wrong will be righted. We can look forward to the Last Day—also known as Judgment Day—because we are confident of where we stand with God through faith in Jesus Christ. Join us this Sunday for worship (8:00 & 10:30 am) and Bible Study and Sunday School (9:20-10:10 am). Our guest preacher will be Pastor Mark Barenz (retired).

Midweek Advent Worship

A new church year begins with the Advent season on November 27. The season of Advent is a season of preparation, not just for our celebration of Savior’s first coming, but for our welcoming him when he comes again. During this special season, midweek devotional services will be held Wednesdays, November 30 – December 14, at 3:30 & 6:30 pm. (Note: there will not be Advent meals this year). This year’s theme is: “A Savior is Born…”

Christmas Flowers and Decorations

As the Advent season will begin at the end of November, we are thinking ahead to decorating the church for  the Christmas season with poinsettias, outdoor wreaths, and greenery. If you would like to contribute to the RLS Flower Fund for this purpose, please use one of the marked envelopes by the hall bulletin board or mark "Flower Fund" on the "other" line of your offering envelope. (Please make checks payable to Riverview Lutheran.)  Donations may be placed in the offering plate or taken to the church office.  Thank you for your help in beautifying God's house.

PowerPoint Assistants

To help with the important role of PowerPoint Assistant in worship, Mr. Witte will be providing training for all of the 5th-8th grade students who are members of Riverview. All students will then be added to a rotation so both worship services have a clicker. Please email with what service you prefer to attend and your student will be added to that schedule. If you are not able to attend on your scheduled time please find another student to fill in. This commitment would be about 4 times a year.

Sunday Bible Study

In 10 Lies About God, we are discovering how popular but inaccurate beliefs distort our relationship with God. And we are learning loving, Bible-based corrections that we can use in response. Adults and youth in grade 6 & up are invited to join us Sundays at 9:20 am in the Fellowship Hall (Room 208/Grade 7-8 classroom).

This Week's Topic: "A God of Love Wouldn't Send People to Hell"
