What is vocal range? What is vocal endurance? Why is the location of your voice important? How many voices are there out there? Why is it important to know the difference? Can your voice change over time?

From “Glee” to “My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and the anticipated television version of “High School Musical” next year, there have never been more roles for an actor who can sing.  Singing is an important tool in and actor’s skill set, but many lack the knowledge or confidence to get in front of the camera and deliver a stellar performance.  SINGING FOR ACTORS will help develop your singing skills as an actor, giving you more confidence and making you even more marketable to casting directors.

You will be introduced to a variety of exercises and tools that will strengthen your ability to nail a song in an audition. You will learn to let go of your nerves while you embrace and enhance your unique singing voice in a supportive group environment. Furthermore, you will learn the proper techniques to protect your voice from the common mistakes singers make that can lead to vocal injuries.

SINGING FOR ACTORS will help get you ready for more “musical” content in today’s TV and film, and help make you more competitive for the right singing roles.

Laura Jensen is a native New Yorker who attended The Manhattan School of Music from the age of 9 years old through high school. She was later accepted into the Mannes College of Music and then The Juilliard School, majoring in voice and also studying classical piano. She left Juilliard when she landed the role of Eponine in Les Miserables on Broadway. She then went on to tour in Showboat, Carousel, Joseph, Godspell and numerous others. Her philosophy and extensive knowledge of the voice comes from a lifetime of experience as a singer, performer, student and teacher. She works with kids and adults alike and focuses specifically on breath control, endurance and developing a broader range, as well as building confidence in performance.
