I'm very pleased to announce that Orange Computer has a new website!

A general refresh was in order, but also a new website address, as the old orangecomputerlax.com had "lax", referring to La Crosse, Wisconsin.

The new website ending with ".us" shows that I am not limited just to the La Crosse area, but also now service La Crosse, Viroqua and surrounding areas. We can also sell and ship computers to anyone in the United States!

Available Computers

One of the frequent questions I get over the phone or email is "What computers do you have for sale?"

A primary goal with a new website was to be able to show what computer models I have, with details about specs and price.

It works more like a craigslist or classified listing, in that it shows information about the item but isn't a full online store where you can "add to cart" and process an order. It's a happy place in between.

I feature three systems on the home page and then also have a listing of all available computers:

Now I can send a link to a page on my website with all the details, like:

https://orangecomputer.us/items/dell-optiplex-3050/

Or people can browse and find out before contacting me.

I'll be building up my inventory. I'll add an item page when I have something ready to sell and remove the page for an item after it sells.

Website Process & Tech

The website is launched, but I have more work to do. I plan on adding photos to each item page. I'd also like to publish a lot more writing on tech topics there and have a full archive of my email newsletter on the website.

The tool that I used to build the website is called Hugo, a static site generator. It makes it easy for me to add and remove pages, which is exactly what I was looking for.

I enjoyed the website building process and am pleased with the result. If you have questions about websites, feel free to contact me. I'd be happy to share my experience.
