Highlighting four generations of chemistry research
At last month's UW System Board of Regents meeting hosted by UW-Eau Claire, Chancellor James Schmidt was pleased to share this video, featuring interviews with four generations of chemistry faculty and students.
"Undergraduate research is at the heart of what we do — and we’ve been doing it at UW-Eau Claire since the early 1960s," Schmidt said. "That’s one of the reasons why in 2016 we were named No. 1 in the country for undergraduate research by the Council on Undergraduate Research.
"For 34 years, UW-Eau Claire has been the UW System's Center of Excellence for Faculty and Undergraduate Student Research Collaboration, an honor we take great pride in," Schmidt said. "Here's why undergraduate research is part of our institutional DNA." (Video credit: Glen Mabie)

A note from the Alumni Association board president
Homecoming 2022 was a weekend full of nostalgia and Blugold cheer! For those that haven’t been back on campus recently, you’d be astonished by the growth and development. Lower campus has beautiful new buildings, including the Flesch Family Welcome Center (2021), Centennial Hall (2014) and Davies Center (2012). Even with the updated ambiance, there’s a familiarity that reawakens memories of all-night studying, classroom lectures, extracurricular activities and incredible friendships!
As part of the Alumni Association board of directors, I had the distinct privilege of witnessing our age-old Homecoming traditions firsthand. The board volunteers throughout the weekend at the "Golden Blugolds" (event honoring 50-year alumni), the Homecoming parade and the football game fundraiser, selling beer and UW-Eau Claire merchandise. The weekend concluded with an inspiring Alumni Awards ceremony honoring four incredible Blugolds.
The Alumni Association board of directors has more than 25 members working toward numerous goals, including alumni engagement, developing relationships with current students, providing scholarships, hosting alumni gatherings and developing strategic partnerships for the university. If you’re interested in learning more or applying to be on the board of directors, I encourage you to visit the Alumni Association board page. The board hopes to connect with you at an upcoming alumni event soon!
Carry high the blue and gold,
Tom Holtan ’09
Alumni Association board president
