A Time for Thanks,
a Time for Giving

November is traditionally a time for giving thanks, and December a time for giving.   Just a month after our second 5 City 5 Alarm Chili Cook-Off, we give thanks to everyone who participated and who helped to make the event a success:  from the fire department staff to volunteers to council members to audience to sponsors and more. We're thankful that our communities came together to raise monies for our Safe at Home Program, and that our staff can assist more older adults in remaining safe from falls.

We asked the fire departments to participate in the event because falls and injuries in the home affect them, too.  The awards we give at the event are our way of giving thanks to those first-responders in our communities for their hard work and dedication.

The Safe at Home Program is the newest of services offered by Community Partnership on Aging.  Since conception we have assisted many residents through the program, by either installing safety equipment or performing environmental assessments in their homes.

Did you know that Community Partnership on Aging gives in many other ways throughout the year?  Here are just a few examples:

1.  Every year we serve more than 10,000 meals to older adults at a suggested donation or nominal fee.  Each month more than 100 meals are funded directly by Community Partnership on Aging;

2.  Every year we provide a minimum of 10,000 individual and group van rides for older adults who are unable to or prefer not to drive; again, at nominal cost to users.

3.  In 2013, Community Partnership on Aging volunteers provided more than 8,100 service hours!   CPA volunteers help in our offices, at our lunches and other programs; volunteer as friendly visitors and assist with yard clean ups, leaf raking and major home repairs, and more.

So at this time of thanks and of giving, we challenge you:

  • Do you have a few hours to give each week?  Our volunteer coordinator can find the perfect volunteer opportunity for you!

  • Community Partnership on Aging is a tax exempt organization.  If you are in the position to do so, please consider a donation of any size to assist with the program or service of your choice.

And if by chance you find yourself in need of assistance - or maybe you are looking to meet some new friends, find a new experience or start an exercise routine - give us a call, stop in or send us an email. You can also check out our December paper newsletter by clicking the box below.
