Here we are, in the thick of winter. If you're anything like us you've been enjoying more time at home with a good movie and your coziest throw. More time at home means fewer distractions from the inevitable clutter in your home — and whether it’s toys, shoes, jewelry, or mudroom chaos, clutter can slowly but surely disrupt the calm and peace we crave in our spaces and our lives.

By incorporating design elements into how you organize, you can achieve the perfect winter refresh to set you up for success in the year ahead. Check out our top three tips for making your space functional and fabulous in our latest blog post.

2022 Calendar
If your New Year’s resolutions included any home projects, stay on track by making a plan to achieve your goals. Here are a few helpful tips to declutter, organize, and refresh your home one room at a time:
  • Create a home schedule. Plan your DIY projects and renovations, write down a cleaning schedule you can commit to, and take inventory of what you might need for any upcoming holidays and events. Add dates and reminders on your home calendar to help keep you on track.
  • Plan for big furniture purchases. Sectionals, bed frames, and other big furniture and accent pieces have long lead times due to current shipping delays. Order new pieces early but wait to remove your current furnishings until you have a better idea of when they will be replaced.
  • Reassess your current layout. Ask yourself how your current space could function better for your needs, particularly in high-traffic areas. Consider furniture placement, where the natural light hits, and any specific areas or features you want to highlight in each room.

Our clients engaged us to create a European-influenced ambiance for their home that was both streamlined and purposeful. Weathered cedar beams in the living room draw the eye upward while the Francois Limestone mantle and minimalized casework create an elegant, light, and airy space. In the kitchen, the Calacatta Gold marble countertops and extended backsplash are complemented by the gorgeous island, which was designed to resemble furniture and paired with Hickory Chair counter stools with a weathered black finish. Our clients’ classically detailed selections and willingness to mix old with new helped us achieve a sense of history in this newly built home.

We loved helping our fabulous and fashionable client create this envy-inducing dressing room. From the glass and mirrored cabinetry to the sparkling chandelier, this closet is what dreams are made of! We installed floor-to-ceiling cabinetry to display our client’s gorgeous handbags and shoes (which are organized by type and color) and ensured the beautifully styled island can hold all of her jewelry and provides space to accessorize her favorite ensembles.

Fun fact—this client has only one pair of (Gucci) flats besides her tennis shoes! She’s our hero!

NEW SPACE // STL's Own "Home Edit"

We love working with NewSpace, a professional home organization and closet company based here in St. Louis. (And particularly amazing designers from their team like Gregg Niederschmidt!) In addition to their organizing services, the team at NewSpace designs custom solutions for all of your storage areas. While Gregg’s favorite spaces to design are home offices, he and his team also specialize in everything from walk-ins and linen closets to reach-ins, pantries, and beyond. Nothing is better than functional shelving that shows off the beautiful clothing and accessories inside! In the Behind the Scenes project featured this month, NewSpace was able to add an island with custom jewelry drawers (swoon!) and a dedicated space to organize the client's vast collection of handbags and shoes.

  • Over the holidays, our team came together to celebrate the hard work and amazing projects we completed in 2021 (including finding THE perfect ADJ tree to decorate!)
  • Birthdays x2! Happy birthday to Meagan Cooperman and Jill Parcell from the ADJ team, and thank you for everything you do to bring our clients’ visions to life. We love celebrating you!

Wishing you health in beautiful spaces,
