Everyone has that special something that tells them, “it’s officially the holidays!” Whether it’s hanging stockings on the mantle, filling a bowl of Hanukkah gelt, or decorating your home with gorgeous, glimmering lights, the holidays present a one-of-a-kind opportunity to show off your signature style.

While many aspects of the holidays may look different this year, decorating your home doesn’t need to! At ADJ, we consider accessories to be the exclamation point to any home design project - holiday decorations included. From artwork to tabletop accents, from lamps to frames and throws, your accessories are the cherry on top of your home’s design!

This 10,000-square foot custom home, designed with a young family in mind, began with the designation of a bold color scheme and a set of guiding principles. An enormous task, unique in scope, the project entailed far more than the selection of interior finishes and floorplans. Rather, it encompassed every aspect of what would become “home” for this Ladue, MO couple and their three children, from architectural details down to the choice of every furnishing, wall color and covering, drapery and accessory. The clients embraced their designer’s vision, one that was a great departure from their former home. Out of this relationship built upon trust and mutual respect, their dream of a new family home, a brilliant balance of elegance and comfort, was born.

The foundation classic, the details opulent; nearly every room is adorned with the sparkle of crystal, glass, or brass. The choice of lighting was among their first, accompanied by a timeless foundation of plaster, wood, and marble. Furnishings echo Mid Century and Deco designs, their simple forms made inviting through a use of soft, luxurious textiles and textures.

The addition of wood beams in the living room and kitchen, while striking, is subdued, stripped of its intensity with staining and whitewashing. The beams retained their warmth but with a unique softness.

The home’s signature shades of blue and brass punctuate the great room, kitchen, dining room and hearth room with bold accessories, upholstery, and draperies.

We’ve been collaborating with local artists like Ted CollierZach Smithey and Peter Manion (to name a few!) to create custom masterpieces that capture our clients’ personalities and design preferences. Finding perfect pieces for you is the ultimate way to tie a room together.

Decorating your Christmas tree or lighting the Hanukkah candles are exciting traditions for families everywhere. That said, holiday decorating can quickly become daunting for several reasons. Clutter can build up when you add decorations to an already-full space; packing up when the holidays are over can lead to post-holiday blues. Here are some tips to avoid both!
  • Replace instead of add. If you’re adding holiday trinkets to your shelves, pull everything that’s currently on them and store them until it is time to take the decor down. This will prevent your space from becoming cluttered, and your holiday aesthetic won’t be interrupted with everyday accents.
  • Take a picture. Before you begin decorating for the holidays, take a photo of what your space looks like. That way, you can put everything back where it belongs when the holidays are over! Similarly, take a picture once your decorations are up so you know what to do next year!
  • Ring in the new year with new additions. Fight your post-holiday blues with a healthy dose of redecorating. As you are taking decorations down, think of something to add to the space. Don’t be afraid to invest in a few new accents, table lamps, or throws to help your home feel warm and cozy after the holidays.

Over the years, Randy has become an essential part of the ADJ family. While he started out as our go-to art framer to put the finishing touches on pieces for our clients’ homes, he quickly became our favorite art hanger, our own personal Mr. Fix It, and now we know him as the one and only Randy the Handyman! He is always there to help us out when we need him and forever does it with a joyful smile on his face. He has the patience for our perfectionist ways and makes sure everything is just as we want it. If artwork is part of your ADJ design, chances are it was installed by Randy! For more of his work, visit Randy’s framing shop, Riverfront Frames, at 10860 Galt Industrial Blvd., Saint Louis, MO 63132.
