It’s the season of pumpkin spice and all things nice – and the perfect time to get your cozy on at home. The foolproof way to create those warm, snug vibes? Layering.
Thoughtfully layering textiles, décor, and lighting creates dimensionality and texture, and provides a visually engaging means for showcasing your personal style. Use layering to soften corners, create welcoming nooks for hunkering down, or for dialing up the glam for fall entertaining.
If you’re all about that cozy fall ambiance, see our latest blog post for tips on how to layer like a pro. Or for an expert eye and creative consult, reach out to us!

Timelessly on trend

Your home should help you live your life your way. This ground-up redesign breathed new life into a dated floor plan, supporting the homeowners’ on-the-go lifestyles and offering flexibility, functionality and timeless appeal. Classic yet contemporary, its American Modern theme integrates warm, natural elements, creating a welcoming, cohesive atmosphere while also providing a striking backdrop for the couple’s cherished art collection. The existing walnut support beams have become a central feature, thoughtfully complemented by small details like walnut shelving and Italian bar stools used to tie the design together. A spa-like bathroom, elegant yet functional kitchen, and airy, serene gathering spaces have together transformed this home into the perfect place to entertain guests – or retreat after a busy day.

For April's birthday on September 13, the ADJ team took it back–WAY back–to the radical, bodacious eighties! It was a 1980's prom-themed blowout complete with wine coolers, big phones, big bows, big hair, and even bigger attitudes. The cherry on top? When April called her crush (her husband) during a round of the game Girl Talk to ask what his favorite radio station was. Fun as only the ADJ team can deliver!

The line between layering and cluttering can be a fine one. Avoid walking it by starting from zero – and rebuilding from there. Remove everything from a shelf, bookcase, or surface. Then add back items with consideration for shape, size, color, and texture. Remember, negative space is your friend. If letting go is hard, remember that anything that doesn’t make the cut can be donated or repurposed elsewhere.
