Saving the Planet Takes Teamwork
We're always looking for new ways to reduce our waste footprint on the bus, and lately we've partnered up with Bodacious Betty to try a few new ideas.
A few months ago, Kate noticed that the bus was going through a number of plastic trash bags on some of our high-business days. Those bags helped corral the milk jugs, syrup bottles, and other items we recycle. Why were we using a non-recyclable item to hold our recyclable goods?
Kate wanted a huge, washable bag to hold all of these recyclables. She asked Hali Rice of Bodacious Betty's to help, and the results were wonderful! Our recycling bag is HUGE and easily, cleanly holds all of our recyclables while we work.
Next, Hali thought of a way Sunflower could reduce the number of disposable coffee cups we use. She volunteered to make a "cup tree" from a ladder, which we'd both stock with thrift store coffee mugs in the sizes Sunflower sells.
Now each Saturday, you can grab a cup from our cup tree at the Old Town Farmers Market and save a disposable one. When you're finished enjoying your drink, leave the mug in the dish tub below the ladder, or wash your mug and bring it back next week.
