We would like to express our gratitude to the community members who participated in Giving Tuesday
TM by donating to The Larrabee Center, Inc. With your generous support, we raised nearly $2,000!

Community Partners
We are very grateful to the CUNA Mutual Foundation for providing funding for lockers at our vocational center clients as well as new shopping carts for Trinkets & Togs! Also of note, Cedar Valley Friends of the Family has hired a work crew from Larrabee Vocational Center to complete janitorial duties at their Waverly location. If your business is interested in hiring a work crew, contact Jessica Gulick at (319) 352-8868.

Lastly, Thank you to the Elsie Mitchel Crosby Fund for Senior Citizens and W-SR United Way for their support in funding the transportation route TLC offers to anyone overage 50 or with a disability in Waverly, Shell Rock, and Janesville on Saturdays. For more information on the free transportation route, please contact John at 352-2234.

Staff Spotlight: Linda Hughes, Vocational Program Director

Linda started with The Larrabee Center in December 1995. In the 18 years Linda has been with the agency, she has been privileged to be a part of tremendous growth for the agency, expanding our vocational program from serving 6 clients to serving over 50 clients this year. An exciting accomplishment was the merging of Trinkets & Togs and our Vocational program to our current location Collegetowne Plaza in 1997. “Having our store and our vocational program together has created a premier shopping experience for our customers and much more opportunity for our clients to work in the store and integrate with the community.” Another big step for our organization and for Linda was to open another Trinkets & Togs in Grundy Center and introduce our services to the community. Linda shared, “I have truly enjoyed the opportunity to direct such an important program and to see the accomplishments of our clients. I have always be- lieved that it is important for people to work and that anyone, no matter what their ability (or disability) can and should be able to work if they so choose. Seeing clients gain confidence, become more stable, and achieve inde- pendence is the most gratifying for me. I have enjoyed working with staff who are so dedicated to providing supports and encouragement to our clients. I am happy to be a part of the leadership team, an amazing and talented group of people.” We are truly honored to have Linda as an integral component to the growth and success of our agency!

Larrabee Success Story: Sue

Sue began services with the goal of finding her own apartment and learning how to manage her finances. “Having my own apartment has brought me so much independence.” She feels the best part about receiving services is the one-on-one support she receives in her home. Sue credits staff for supporting her during crisis and pointing her in the right direction to get the help she needed. “TLC has given me my life back in so many ways. I am now working at Larrabee Vocational Center and have been trained in different areas, including working at the cash register at Trinkets & Togs.” Sue feels having a job has allowed her the opportunity to be back in the public again. “I can’t thank TLC enough for all the doors they have opened for me.”

Trinkets & Togs
More than a store

Did you know when you donate goods to Trinkets & Togs, you create job opportunities? Did you know every purchase at Trinkets & Togs helps fund programs for individuals with disabilities? Since 1992, The Larrabee Vocational Center has provided clients with paid, on-the-job work experience. Each year, approx. 50 clients are supported in their goal of obtaining community employment. The Larrabee Center is proud of the high-quality, CARF accredited programing provided at both the Waverly and now Grundy Center locations. Clients receive individualized supports to assist them in gaining valuable employment skills and building confidence to take the next step. Within the past few years, clients have obtained employment at Wal-Mart, Burger King, McDonald’s, CUNA Mutual, American’s Best Value Inn, and Trinkets & Togs as regular part-time employees.
