A personal plea
It seems that this year is probably turning out to be just as tough as the past two years for teachers in all sectors: pre-schools, schools, the AMEP and SEE Program, the wider VET sector, and universities. So I do understand that coming out for the ATESOL ACT AGM may not be at the top of everyone’s priority list. But your Association cannot continue without support from its members.
On top of all their other commitments, your ATESOL ACT Committee has worked hard in these two years to bring you stimulating Professional Learning events and to keep our show on the road. As previously, the 2021-2022 Committee has been a dedicated group of great people who’ve given generously of their time to support their fellow EAL/D teachers. They really need to see you at the AGM and to know that you value their contributions.
Also, having given their best, not every Committee member is able to continue in 2022-23. The more people we have on the Committee, the more interesting the experience is for everyone in meeting and working with fellow EAL/D professionals and sharing ideas and experiences. But if our Committee numbers shrink, the burden on the remainder increases, which limits what we can do for everyone else.
In particular, our very capable web editor and social media editors are stepping down – if you have skills or an interest in this area, we’d love to hear from you. But we also need more people to join our various Working Parties: Schools, Adult EAL, Membership and Communications. Participating in these groups is a great opportunity to focus on discussions about our work as EAL/D educators and what we can do to advance our profession.
If you plan to attend, it would help us if you registered for this event at

If you’re interested in participating in the Committee, please download a nomination form at
ATESOL-ACT-Committee-Nomination-Form-2022.pdf (atesolact.org.au). If you plan to attend the meeting, just bring the form along and it can be completed before the meeting starts. If you can’t attend but would like to join the Committee, please complete the form and send it to
secretary@atesolact.org.au. It needs to arrive
before the meeting. If you have queries, need assistance or would like to discuss anything, please write to me, include a phone number, and I’ll write or call you:

With warm good wishes to you all for 2023,
